I can imagine big industry is behind the entire thing. Get people to spend money on bacon. Guaranteed sales. Constant promotion. And the medical industry, screw them over with toxins in the meat.

I read that most bacon is injected with water to plump it up. That's one of the reasons why it "spits" when you cook it.

There's bacon you can "fry naked", because it's all meat, no water added.

As for hipsters and the like, I've always had a thick beard worn in different styles since '07. To me it's not a big deal, easier than shaving every other day. Plus I always wore plaids and chamois shirts with "retro glasses".

I'm apparently a huge hipster. I really had no idea.

Yes I know, no offence really meant. I also have a beard and like bacon.

And I dont mean I have a small amount of facial hair and enjoy bacon on the odd occasion, I'm kind of a it's me or the beard guy.

And keep your filthy mitts off my dry cured oak smoked bacon...

Smart person! Clearly there is an agenda. Whenever this happens they want to sell a particular item, so why do they want to sell bacon is the question! The other question is why thread after thread on ATS.
People didn't used to be this crazy for bacon, my husband says everyone wants it at their restaurant now. Hypnosis...programing? Hope they are not selling meat from the virus slaughters worldwide, maybe all the treatment in bacon makes it safe.

a quick look

I know my friend, we will be fine but just don't go messing with bacon.

On a semi serious note I love the way that ass the world continues to fall around us with ebola, isis ect, we still find time to talk about the real issues in life.

Same with epic. Beards.

To me it's a food. Society seems to popularize random things every so often. Phrases, styles. I don't see the point, it's like another hipster phenomenon.

Well they got people hooked then the price will goup, they are blaming it on the virus though.
Poor little guys punished for existing turkeys too are the a must for the holidays.

Just look at everything that is being posted in this thread. Easy to see the problem.

Bacon has always been cool.

Being a hipster, and trying to "Make" everything cool, is the trend now.

So hipsters are the problem.

They need to stay the hell away from bacon. Us old people don't do trends. Hence why bacon has always been cool.

I want to know that the deal with bacon is too

why is commercial bacon so crap ??????????????????????????????????????

even allegedly " best back " - is still limp wet fatty crap -

palatable bacon is getting rarer - and more expensive

there are now only 3 places [ near to me ] that sell bacon that's fit to eat - and all are horrendously expensive

this is a travesty - we need to get back to good affordable bacon

PS - I am not being a snob - commercial bacon used to be edible - 10 years ago I ate Tesco bacon when I needed to save money - now its inedible - the bacon has changed - not me

Overproduced, mass-farmed garbage. The meat nowadays isn't fit to eat.

Plumped up with water to increase the weight, juiciness. Toxins, hormones, diseases.

I'd suggest buying bacon on the net that isn't filled with water, it makes the frying safer and easier. Plus you can fry it without oils supposedly.

I'm a vegetarian and for a time I ate Morningstar and Quorn products. IMO, they're the same as meats, filled with sodium and chemicals.

Food always has it's phases.

Remember when 'fine dining' meant 5+ course meals with tiny little servings, try and find a place like that now days that isn't a palace. Remember when there was no such thing as fast casual? And fast food was king? Try and find an old style McDonaldss now days that isn't all spruced up to a McCafe, it's rare now days.

Bacon has taken off because it always had this bad rep that it's TERRIBLE for you. Or that it's a breakfast food.
But that's not the case at all, two strips of bacon can actually be eaten a day and be beneficial for you, and now days with a world ALWAYS on the go, a true breakfast is only for rich suburban families and sunday mornings.
And for a restaurant it's the perfect meat, salty, fatty, meaty, can be cooked several ways, all you need to do is a little sweetness, or an acidic property and boom you can pair it with anything!

I am sure some other food will replace bacon and kale the two most current fads of food. From what I have seen, it's most likely other cuts of pig, there is a fad right now where restaurants buy land in the country and raise their own pigs.

Bacon as as all cured meats should be treated as a luxury and is fantastic.

Supermarkets want everybody to indulge so drop the standards over time so that an every day essential can be what luxury was.

The only way they can do this is by pumping more water and chemicals into what we think is bacon and over time we (they) forget and buy what they want us to. simple marketing.
