Some people will say this doesn't apply to their country because this article is about Singapore, but I believe that most government have the same agenda- increase population to increase taxes and spending (and soldiers for some countries). I like how they admit that they know the people don't want it, but they are going to force it on them anyways, and try to figure out how to propagandize them to like it. Also, they are using immigration for the growth. Sound familiar?

I would have to agree with you there. Something else the nations with central banks love is being able to create more debt-based currency, to what end I cringe to think about. You think they'll actually spend resources trying to [help] the population like the idea? Maybe i'm just being pessimistic but I can't imagine they'd actually care whether the populace liked it or not, full steam ahead. If [expansion] isn't the name of the game, I can't imagine what is.

edit: is it just me, or can anyone else read the link without a subscribe popup when x'ed out takes you to another page?

Don't worry they are just hurting themselves. That tiny land isn't going to hold much people longer.

We visiting Singapore back in the 1990's. Back then it was mostly ground floor shops and the family home above and a few high rise blocks. Now it is all high rise offices and apartments. Those that can't afford to live in Singapore, live in Malaysia and commute across by car, bus or motorbike.

It will deplete revenues for a while. But aside from all sorts o civil war concepts that comes to mind. I think he is trying to garner votes.

Doesn't anyone realize that this is the same thing that's being done to our country?
Massive growth constantly being pushed to make money, but it makes life suck for the rest of us.

Well when you run on a faith based fiat currency, a larger population that believes in its value secures that currency.

This doesn't shock me really

Exactly they are only hurting themselves. High Rises are towers of doom. If it falls they get no where to run.
