Excellent. Kids don't go to school to get dumbed down by the right wing on the public dime.

So you aren't ok with kids going to school and getting dumbed down by the right wing on the public dime, but you are perfectly ok with them going to school and getting dumbed down by the left wing on the public dime?

If you believe instilling a predilection and preference for living in this reality rather than the alternate one right wingers prefer to live in is 'dumbding down by the left', yeah.

Sure.

No I believe that the BS is just as deep and stinks just as bad on the left as it does on the right. If you don't see that my friend, then you are blind to the American political machine.

You are mistaken.

The right has a monopoly on bull#.

The last 6 years and two presidential elections say otherwise.

'Change We can Believe in'.

You say that as though the other "news" outlets aren't just as bad. For example, CNN has a history of straight up fraud/lies. We need to recognize it for what it is, the propaganda machine, and being part of the same machine, they all have a role to play.

The fact that the conservative sites are blocked while liberal sites are not is disturbing. The fact that it may have been the software at fault rather than the school is even more disturbing because that means this probably is not an isolated case.

This doesn't surprise me a bit. As much as I don't like the religious insanity of the right, the fact of the matter remains that the fascist element in this country has a hard-left political leaning.

It's absolutely terrifying how quickly somebody calm, cool, tolerant, and generally very kind will flip and start throwing all sorts of crazy accusations of racism and start calling you a terrorist and all sorts of stuff just because you disagree with them politically. It's absolutely amazing how quickly they flip the script and become aggressive, degrading, and unwilling to listen.

OK sounds bad at first but if you give any thought to it then you would realise why at least some of those sites are blocked by the filter.

NRA now does that really need to be explained? Oh wait it probably does for some of the slower ones.

What is the new boogie man word in schools. That's right GUNs. Personally I like guns I own plenty but I am pretty sure the subject in school is taboo. Like it or not guns and schools are something that will be filtered. That isn't left right issue. That is just reality. As for some of the others..well I cant say unless they are talking about guns in which case the filter will kick in.

I really do not think someone is at the school manually going to every right wing site and blocking it, Occams razor would say it is the filter program.

Lots of luck with that.

Public schools aren't for thinking. Hell - you can't learn anything useful the way we teach kids in public schools. The only good education is in learning how to learn, and then -- doing stuff, building stuff, making stuff. People who can do that can do anything. People who learn only by rote memorization are useless, and most of what they think they know will evaporate before the next commercial break anyway.

Obama and Bush are both characters in a puppet show. At the policy level, there is no fundamental difference. It's the same guy with his hands shoved up inside two imaginary a-holes.

Are you REALLY

THAT UNAWARE of the globalists using all sides against the middle and certainly the DEMS AND the GOP to further their goals of a one world government of utter tyranny mushing together Communism and a form of monopolistic capitalism?

Are you REALLY that unaware that the "liberals" sold us out . . . or rather . . . were commandeered by the globalists more than 100 years ago? Some would say from the days of George Washington.

Perhaps you are unaware of a related quote:

108."The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of "liberalism", they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened". Norman Thomas, for many years the U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate

*snip*

It really isn't that 'scary' to be exposed to religions and politics that you may not be part of or agree with...in fact it is necessary for all points of view to be available and respected for a society to work. Why do we see more and more an education system with a far left bias? It has been prevalent at the college level for years and now it appears that high schools are indoctrinating our children as well. Add in 'common core' with the censorship and we are left with nothing, but good little citizens of the state.

Why? Because the "education system" is an indoctrination system. It hasn't been about real education for a long time now. "Good little citizens" is what they want; good little programmed robots.

“This is really border line indoctrination,” Andrew told me. “Schools are supposed to be fair and balanced towards all ways of thinking. It’s supposed to encourage students to formulate their own opinions. Students aren’t able to do that here at the school because they are only being fed one side of the issue.”

I don't want my children to go to school to learn only one way to think. I want them to go to school to learn to think and then come to a logical conclusion using all the facts. I am deeply troubled that we as a society are being brainwashed into as certain school of thought that will support a progressive-statist agendas. We NEED balance.

Source

If they taught kids t think for themselves, they would love all control. No properly thinking person would buy the BS they are selling. The only solution as a parent is to not have your children in the schools.

The sort of bias seen in this case is seen everywhere these days, even on big alternative discussion sites. S&F.

Having escaped CT a few years ago under the cover of night I'll tell you it's like the North Korea of New England.

Propaganda everywhere from the schools to the private sector businesses and if they learn you intend to leave they put up bureaucratic fences and once you get past those they release the dogs to follow you across state lines and pull you back.

I often joke about CA falling into the ocean but when CT is concerned the state really needs obliteration. Complete and thorough obliteration.

That sounds like a story that needs telling. Can you elaborate? What is it they are doing to follow people across state lines?

School Vouchers, puts the money in the parents hands and the choice
as to where their kids are taught. Everything changes at that point,
schools competing for students, imagine that.

That only works well if parents can use the vouchers to pay to home school as well. If all of the choices are bad, then vouchers won't do any good. They'd have to be for all options, not just other public schools, or even private schools, but home schools.

the left might have some authoritarian tendencies, but alltogether I think those are more tracable to the sorts of academic enviroment of social-sciences born in the 20th century.

frankly as a left-winger I find social-justice to be a waste of time, and merely a distraction from economic issues.

Fascism is a different thing altogether; there was a great quote on this; from an alt-history novel I read;

The thing you have to understand about fascism is that it isn't an ideology at all.

It's theater.

Blocking websites is akin to what the nazis did with their book burning.

That is the very antithesis of what the word liberal means.

Schools are suppose to be places of LEARNING.

Not indoctrination.

It is any wonder that this country doesn't produce some of the worlds brightest minds anymore?

We mass produce zombies.

My question for you is why that filter program was set up in the first place to block anything besides porn or firearms.

# the stupid agenda you guys think there is.

This is clear and precise censorship of everything that the CT commie-liberals hate. Simple. There is no logical reason to block the Republican party. We live in a country of freedom of speech, separation of church and state, and the pursuit of happyness. CT is only the tip of the iceberg.
You now realize that this supposed "error" has been present in almost every liberal public school in the nation for the past 4 years or so.

I lived in CT for 13 years, there is an agenda and anyone who says different obviously hasn't ever lived in CT.

Ye know not the boundaries of the madness that is CT politics and liberal policies

Here's the quote I was trying to find:

86."Do not believe for an instant that the world's conspiring elite in every nation have so much as a serious quarrel among them. They have just one object: control through tribute. Your slavery, through tribute, and mine... Behind this attack are the self-styled elite, secure in their own power and riches... "To be effective we must direct our attacks on the real criminals, the wealthy, and powerful and secret elite of all the world--the conspirators laboring day and night to enslave us." I substitute-taught in some local public schools. Mostly high schools, a couple middle schools. I hear these "schools teach by rote" and "kids just memorize facts nowadays" memes and have no clue where they come from, because I saw the exact opposite, and to their detriment.

There's nothing wrong with memorization. Many things *must* be memorized. You don't get far in math if you don't know your times-tables cold, for example. If you have to add 8+8+8+8+8 to figure out 8x5, you understand what multiplication is, but you are at a disadvantage. (That is what I understand common core would like you to do, btw.) It requires memorization.

I have nothing against a reasonable amount of standardized tests as an objective measure across school, district, and state lines. I was never told to get the kids to memorize anything. You can't memorize answers for reading comprehension or a trig problem you've never seen before. It requires problem solving.

Everybody scoffs at memorizing dates in history but those kinds of things rarely if ever show up on standardized tests. And really, there's nothing wrong with knowing when major events occurred. I asked a class of sophomores what year women got the vote in the US and they offered just about every year from 1492 to 1979. They should at least know the decade.

The reason kids are doing worse on standardized tests every year, in my opinion, is the current focus on teaching by not teaching. The saying is that the teacher should not be the sage on the stage but the guide on the side. Kids get in groups and (supposedly) learn from each other. They do everything in groups, and then they get a test they have to do solo, and they have no clue.

Group work reinforces the wrong answer, because they spend all this class time working out a problem the wrong way, because they haven't been taught the right way. Either one smart kid gets copied from, so the others don't really learn, or they follow the kid with the most leadership skills, who isn't always right. I've also seen smart kids opt out because they're tired of doing all the work.

Kids today don't memorize facts because they haven't been taught facts! They are "learning" from each other and it's the blind leading the blind. And this philosophy is of course a product of the liberals. If you buck this trend in favor of tried and true teaching, you will probably not be out of a job.

Excellent points. And probably 90% of the sociology profs I've known are about as clueless as most of the kids about the realities of life, politics, relationships, anthropology etc.

What a criminal activity our schools have been turned into.
