happening right now X2.2 solar flare... and couple days ago a sockwave??

High Solar Activity
Solar activity is now at high levels thanks to new sunspot 2087, now rotating into view off the southeast limb. A strong, but impulsive solar flare measuring X2.2 was first detected Tuesday morning 11:42 UTC. Just over an hour later, this was followed up by a longer duration X1.5 event around the same active region. The second event (X1.5) is responsible for a bright coronal mass ejection now visible in the latest STEREO Ahead COR2 imagery. More details regarding a possible glancing blow once additional imagery becomes available. The active region will turn into a more direct Earth facing position as the week progresses. Event logs are listed below

It seems to have been acting up last couple of days..

Now that is something to take note of. Nothing outright dangerous..but it's crossing into the attention getting category!

Yup def note worthy and a couple of days ago it said something about a shockwave it was quiet for about a week alot of weak cat c's but i just happened to look and was like ok wow, when we get to x5 then its a problem and its funny its coming from a new sunspot

The sun fluctuates. It's a continual gravity contained explosion, and does some really exotic things with matter and EMF's.

Additional thoughts (edit): There's like 100 of these posts / year. So far, nothing serious, which isn't to say the sun can't unleash a wave of electronic destruction. It had that one blast in the 1800's that might or might not have fried modern tech (some satellites destroyed and power outages from blown transformers being the most likely)

To be honest I like to read about these events and hate the endless comments and nit picks against the threads. This is the place to post this stuff and if you and others do not want to read it........DON'T.

If you have not noticed I do not really post in these threads because I am far from an expert. Political and survival threads are my thing.



That being said I do read them and I hate the endless negative comments on every post by people with nothing better to do. What I don't understand is why people post if they are just going to bash the thread.......Is life really that boring that this is the best way to get a rise out of people?

It is very strange and I just do not understand the mindset.

You know ATS used to be about discussing things not taking peoples heads off for posts. IMHO ATS is slacking i was gone for two weeks cause of the drama every post you put now gets attacked...

Wow - calm down and breathe. I believe that all she was saying is that these things happen fairly frequently, but then people pile on with the "we're all going to die" doom porn... the "shot across the bow" comment is from the many posts regarding Ed Dames and his "prediction" regarding the "kill shot" (from a CME). This imminent doom has been predicted by him over and over, but yet here we all are. So I think she was just hoping that the "kill shot" crap wouldn't start again, that's all.

I mean, I like the doom porn as well as anyone else since it's usually kinda funny how people believe it - but people can't keep posting about Ed Dames kill shot every year and expect to be taken seriously.

Because many of us have been around long enough to remember intelligent discussion on these boards before it was infiltrated and overrun with the moronic mindset of 4chan posters. I think it will happen, and have spent years preparing for it.

Except I am thinking that humans will do it before the sun does.

High Altitude Electro Magnetic Pulse weapons will most likely be the culprit. We could take bets, but then whoever gets hit won't ever have to pay up because they'll be unreachable.

I didn't mean to dis your posting this- I have SpaceWeather.com bookmarked and check it out each day, with Today's Space Weather.....I just was thinking about Ed Dames, who I guess I liked or something on Facebook once and feel a bit drowned by his excitement whenever the sun burps.

I made a little chuckle about Ed Dames' fervor, and the op took it personally, and you jumped to conclusions, and from my point of view? You are the one attacking me, for something you didn't understand.

If you're seeing drama a lot, it might be your own.

No biggie, we can just clarify and we're back on the same page.

Personally never that yes every one is entitled to thier own opinion and free speech is not bad
