Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered troops near the border with Ukraine back to their bases, a presidential spokesman said.

Putin orders troops back from borders

NATO has been upping the pressure on Moscow to have the 40,000 Russia troops on the Ukrainian border back to their bases, and it appears today they will return. No mentioned of how many stationed in Crimea, or if these troops will be replaced.

Guess well have to keep and eye on this developing story.

Hopefully this bodes well for both the Ukraine and the rest of Europe with regards to Russia's recent Saber rattling.

Then again, one has to wonder how much of this recent posturing is simply window dressing designed to make us look the other way while the powers that be wield there nefarious wand somewhere else.

Peace on earth within our lifetime, chance would indeed be a fine thing.

There may be piece in a lifetime, but never piece that lasts for a lifetime.

About time, for the record, these journalists who were arrested for doing their jobs (they filmed UN helicopters in Ukraine btw, the UN deniend they were used "officially"). They are now being branded as terrorists by the Kiev forces and being interrogated.

If the West is so intent on forcing their idea of democracy on a country, despite the fact that the locals of East Ukraine don't want them there, I think Putin has every right to send in some troops (at the very least to protect the people of Ukraine who aren't under the thumb of Kiev).

Ukraine is just another arm wrestling arena for the super powers to match in...Just like Syria,Egypt, and some other African countries.Their people are simply victims of a deadly game of power and greed and they absolutely have nothing to do with the ways their country is run by. But no one wants to admit and believe that they are only being used as a tool by the outsider forces...They are proxies for TPTB.

I have to admit, I a bit surprised.

Considering your source is CNN, I am much more inclined to believe it, as they seem to love to up the drama (well like any news) and for them to say there may be de-escalation sounds good.

Russia is a lot better at this game than Nato as proxy of USA. I will rather have troops at the border. Pres Putin will not release his grip. I bet you as soon as the troops leave Russia's favorite weapons will become 1st line. 1000,s of missiles so good luck.

Once again Putin has apparently been ignored by his troops so far. I just heard there are still troops there on the border and they have not gone anywhere. SO if they are ignoring Putins orders is that a good thing?

This must be the 8th or so thread i've seen over the past months (since the crisis began) about russia pulling troops back (from anywhere).

They all where false statements.

I refuse to believe any of this.

I have a question
If Russia has no forces amassed on the border of the Ukraine, as Mr Putin has stated repeatedly,
then how can he order said non existent forces back to their barracks?

Given their apparent lack of movement, perhaps the troops misunderstand and believe President Putin has ordered the borders away from them.

So this is the 3rd time Russia has order back the troops they claimed were never there to begin with. I expect they will just keep sitting there.

I'm tired of just repeatedly reading of Russian troop withdrawal.Much less actually physically moving as much as Russian troops seem to be doing...

I have to say, I have been hooked on BBC World News since my company included it in the upper package (still a complete rip-off), and oddly they have only mentioned this a couple times--without any satellite proof.

I got so sick of CNN trying to make everything a "stay tuned issue" then repeating the same things, that I really do see BBC News as something broader.

Thing is AlJazeera mentions this story as coming from the Kremlin, so it appears like it really could still be propaganda.

I know that news source got poo-poo-ed for broadcasting Bin-Laden's vids, they seem to show whatever is going on...
