Do you know this man ? ... He's a thief who unwittingly sent a pic of himself from his new stolen phone to its previous owner, likely after entering an incorrect code ... There's no reward for any information you can provide .. but we can all have a good giggle at him

A stolen mobile phone has emailed a "selfie" of a mystery man back to its owner.

Essex Police said they were now keen to talk to the man in the photo.

The HTC phone was stolen from an unidentified student's coat pocket while he was walking in Wivenhoe Park, Colchester, on Thursday evening.

The phone was fitted with a security device which automatically took a photo when the wrong PIN code was entered into the device.

A police spokesman said the man holding the phone had probably inadvertently taken the "selfie" when an incorrect security code was entered several times.

The student, whose email account was linked to the security device, then contacted police.

Well, its no secret that mobiles can do this, Avast is free to download and it has that feature. Three wrong passwords and it takes a pic. It even lets you (the owner) listen in or watch the thief!

I bet that guy is feeling a little stupid

Why don't the UK coppers just put it in their database? I'm sure by now they have a file on every one of their citizens, no?

Looks like he might have some chromosomes on vacation.

When I look at that picture I can't help thinking the owner was thinking this after receiving the email
