Ummm... What?

MINYA, Egypt (AP) — Defense lawyers say an Egyptian judge has sentenced to death more than 680 alleged supporters of the country's ousted Islamist president over acts of violence and the murder of policemen in the latest mass trial in Egypt that included the Muslim Brotherhood's spiritual leader.

Okay, I've heard of nations putting down political movements. We've all heard of nations putting the members of movements in jail. I believe this is the first time I've heard of a nation in recent times, eliminating a whole movement by simply shooting them. All of them, apparently, in an orderly and proper fashion.

Wow.. Is this the best way to handle it, I wonder? Morsi's people didn't just outright murder everyone who protested the move back in the first coup which he came to power on...but I'll bet the Muslim Brotherhood never shows that "kindness" again. Not after this kind of thing. Sometimes people make their own problems. Egypt sure is with this move, I think.

The tit for tat to brutal extremes...gets somewhere? It must, since so many continue doing it. I just can't see where?

What gives this guy the right to sentence 600+ to death?

This 683 is just the second batch of mass trials.

Last month, another 529 were sentenced to death, 1212 total now. However, the majority of the first batch had their sentences reversed to life in prison.....not much of a gain for them anyways.

Needless to say, Im shocked at the number of people the courts want sentenced to death. They're coming down with an iron fist to those that oppose them.

I wonder if stuff that can happen to the US gangs in all major cities. Now that might be a warm welcome to many businesses having to pay protection money all these years. Where there is bad, maybe sometimes there is good.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Islamism is the greatest threat to democracy the world has known. And anyone who knows anything about Islamism knows that it needs to be nipped in the bud or else in 100 years from now America will be an Islamic State.

You do have a fair point in that we can't know what it's like in Egypt unless we're there and it may look a whole lot like fighting for their survival from their seat.

I suppose it's important to consider both sides on a thing like this.

So to save democracy, they have to act in the most ruthless authoritarian way, for democracy...

Tony Blair (whom I can;t believe I am actually praising) gave a very interesting speech about this very attitude.

It appears that Islam, apart from its ordinary followers, creates a particularly dangerous type of radical thinking. This thinking is a threat to the whole world because Islamic people have spread themselves everywhere today. This thinking harbours no other way of looking at the world, and if people refuse to accept it, they are eliminated.

It is a problem in the whole of the ME and when you look at the continual bombings, it exists now all over the world. The only thing that can be done against people indoctrinated fully into this way of thinking is probably what the Egyptian Government has decided to do.

For us outside of Islamic countries, we can't understand it because we have outgrown and left behind this hard-line no tolerance blind observance, but we should never forget these people are being radicalised even when they were
brought up in Wesgtern countries as demonstragted when they go to Syria today. So they are a tremendous threat to our way of life and especially the future of our women and girl children.

The systematic destruction of all or part of a racial, ethnic, religious or national group, also known as Genocide, comes in all shapes and sizes, depending on the flavour of the month.

That's what this sounds like, irrespective of the apparent charges laid.
I mean, come on, 680+ people, that's a shipload of evidence, court trials, lawyers surely? /sarc.

I hope this is perfectly clear to everyone. If not, allow me to help.....

In order for 600+ people to be doomed to death more than one person would have to "sign off" on it. In fact a collective would have to think this is somehow morally acceptable. Let that sink in for a moment...

So if you knew someone whose children are starving and they live in an unsafe neighborhood, whilst their father being known as a mass murderer. Would you send him weapons and armor to defend himself even if you suspect he may use them on his own children?

The Obama administration said Tuesday it has certified that Egypt is upholding its 35-year-old peace treaty with Israel and therefore qualifies for some military and counterterrorism assistance.

Secretary of State John Kerry informed Egypt's foreign minister, Nabil Fahmy, of the decision in a telephone call, crediting the Egyptian government with sustaining its strategic relationship with the United States and fulfilling its obligations to Israel, according to State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki.

Come again????

The decision clears the way for the release of Apache helicopters to Egypt, which the United States has held up since July when the Egyptian military overthrew President Mohammed Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood-led government.

I'm not shocked by this! Seems like the norm is murder happy
in the mid east. No identifiable enemy with in site? Just kill
some of your own till you find the enemy. Kill enough people
were bound to make some enemies along the way right?
Don't they ever watch TV?

I don't see how anyone can condone this.
I have no fondness for the Muslim Brotherhood but they are also a political party and this is something we used against Saddam where he was killing all his opponents. How is the Egyptian Leadership any better than those they kill?

species counter productive acts... May the LORD WATCH over these potential souls sent to the.

Input based upon the senders intents perhaps evaluated from the metaphysical side of EXISTENCE...

Which may follow the sender from flesh to Spirit/Soul/Internal ENERGY to point of more direct contacts... But 1 is not the judge or jury over these Energies sending souls from here. If the species was being evaluated from afar what would they think? The far out evaluators...
got to be a better way

We have to give Egypt those things because of the peace agreement between Egypt and Israel. Thanks to that America has to give Egypt 1.5 billion year in aid. Remember when Egypt's military staged a coup and removed Morsi Obama was going to shut off aid like the law states but Israel and their supporters in congress wouldn't allow it.

Go read the Constitution sometime. America has no more a chance of becoming an Islamic state than it does becoming a Christian state. Muslims have been in this country from the beginning and that was over two hundred years now and still no Islamic state. Your ranting sounds like Hagee or those idiots at FOX that is constantly crying about Muslims.

I think "Freedom and Democracy" from the US is worse to the world than anything.

I think that has higher casualties than this "Islam".

It's worth pointing out, before I read the rest of the thread, that quite often sentences like this are handed down in Egypt to be later commuted or quashed on appeal - so I don't think they are going execute hundreds, at least I hope not as the trials were less than fair, to say the least.

Are they being sentenced merely for their politics or because they committed serious crimes including murder and inciting murder?

Let me guess. Some of the people critical of the handling of the MB by Egypt fully support the US government handling of the Bundy BLM dispute and would celebrate the death sentence for Reid's "domestic terrorists."
