Hi all.

I'm looking to add some real time strategy games to my collection anyone got some good suggestions?

I absolutely love the Command & Conquer series ( the ones with NOD are the best I reckon) but I have literally played them all to death now and I need some decent RTS games to itch my scratch. I'm looking for PS3 or PC games. I've got R.U.S.E, most C&C games and End War.
I'm really struggling to find more for my PS3.

I have quite a few for my PC but I am limited on graphics etc, Tropico 4 is just about the limit on what my PC can hack. Maybe I need a better PC or just take up another thing I find addictive... So any suggestions will be valuable guys, I'm having withdrawals here

Oh and what's your favourite RTS game and why?

Command & Conquer has to be mine, Kane is one kick-ass guy and the story throughout the games is awesome. In general I'd say they were the pioneers of RTS styled games, the only game of the series I was partially disappointed by was Red Alert 3.

Command and conquer Generals 2 is out soon

Looks ok but a bit to cartoony for my liking, Not been many decent ones out for years tbh Tiberium war was ok tho

RTS for consoles is horrendous anyway, PC only IMO

Yeah I've got them both for PC, StarCraft 2 is ok but it just gets boring unless you play you own game and those super ships come and annihilate everything. It's been a while I might stick it on after work.

Age of Empires wise I can only play up to the 2nd one, the others don't work on my PC. I found out the hard way lol. Civilization games are good too but the newer ones are too cartoony

Did you try Sins of a Solar Empire?

I've been playing it for years, they constantly add expansion packs.

Thanks for that

I'll check them out, I don't mind 1st person style RTS games if that is what it's like, my mate used to love those Dynasty Warriors games and swore by them. They seem really hard to find at times though.

You can't beat some good mods
Keeps games that's beaten to death very playable, I love mods on the Fallout games myself another of my all time favourite games.

Now THAT looks like a kind of game I'd love

I'm gonna see if my PC will support it, if it does I'm definitely getting it. I've been looking for a game like that ever since I played Deuteros on an Atari ST when I was young, loved the game even though it was ancient and I've never found anything like it since.

Thanks man, I really appreciate it

Looks good deffo going to be buying, I'd like a little more realism than this tho, actual units and actual black world aircraft and weapons programs

Age of Empires II HD plus the expansion on steam

It's part of the steam workshop so the community creates content and it never gets old : )

Il never buy command and conquer again since the fall of Westwood, and EA takin over the brand they destroyed the game "everyone" fell in love with.
Red alert 3 was a joke, the cartoony graphics were bad yes they pumped a lot of good actors in the game what made it slightly better, tiberian twilight was even worst by removing the base building aspect that made c&c.

As for my favourite RTS I'm not really fussy there some great games out there google banished its in steam early acsess not a RTS but city management game I like to support indie developers.

The game I'm playing ATM is skyrim modded on the pc iv never played it on the pc and I'm hooked the mods are endless.

Also might want to check out.
Total Rome
Supreme commander 2
Star Wars galaxies. some great mods for it!

Good luck

If you like the C&C Generals games, you would absolutely love Battle for Middle Earth. It's easy to overlook because it's a movie license game but it's tied for first for me for RTS games.

There are two games and some expansions. The first one is pretty great but not too flexible with base building. However, in the second BFME game, it's extremely robust. Especially with the Agmar expansion. Same engine as Generals and you even get to make your own "hero" (aka commando in C&C lingo) to produce as a unique unit.

Most units come out in squads so you get to have those really epic large battles like in the movies and books.

It's totally a must-have if you want something as awesome as C&C but also fresh.

Yeah, the game is awesome. Also one of the mods plays it. Some of the guys and me created a clan, we gather on weekends, few beers and chat while in game when wifes and kids give us a chance.

I hope you can play it, but yes...., you need a good computer to avoid lags.

Still looking for a fun RTS? Check out Forged Alliance!

Command and Conquer, lol. Starcraft, haha. That entire "strategy" genre is like the CS of fps games. You just click a unit, click another unit and watch explosions happen. Its more about economics and number crunching than strategy. If it doesnt have suppression and flanking its more arcade than strategy IMO. The Dawn Of War series is the only one of these types I like because they actually seem to want to make the combat fun with a little thinking units. But that's probably because its pretty much Company Of Heroes with Space Marines. And it still skips the unit crunching economics.

Real gamers play real strategy games, such as the Total War series (preferably heavily modded for realism)

X-Com and Company of Heroes are great too, although a little more emphasis on the tactical aspect.

If you want to see a great pioneer in the RTS genre instead of *blerk* CnC *ugh* then look up Ground Control (the predecessor to World In Conflict). Of course, its a little aged now but at its release it was amazing.

If you like free games (who doesnt?) you could check out DOTA 2 on Steam. It's a fun game, great graphics and requires teamwork and strategy.

I'm also a fan of Team Fortress 2 (also free).

A bit late but my favourite RTS games are:

Total War series, specifically Empire/Napoleon/Shogun 2
Company of Heroes and to some extent Company of Heroes 2
World In Conflict, though public multiplayer is pretty much dead for that game nowadays
