There is something operating my mouse and it aint me.

I have noticed a strange feeling when I am moving my mouse almost like I am fighting against gravity,

So I noticed it started it again a few moments ago, so I decided to film the arrow with my phone, sure enough something, someone is operating my mouse, I have the video but don't know how to post it.

How do I post it?

Is the mouse actually carrying out tasks or just moving across the screen?

Any chance the mouse ball is gunked up inside and so it's 'catching' and you feel like you are fighting it? That's what happened to our old mouses ... mices .. mice ... whatever you call them.

Hi.

Am I mistaken or did you recently post a thread stating your comments were disappearing or you couldn't see your posts or something?

Now your mouse has a mind of its own?

Hmmmm.....I would say either:

A. your computer has a virus.
B. it's a ghost / alien
C. you're crazy
D. NSA

Just my unprofessional opinion.

The mouse is not moving only the arrow and it even clicked on a link and opened a window, my hands are not touching the mouse.

If it is opening windows I suggest that you run a malware/spyware test. Your system may have been hijacked.

Stormdancer you need to reboot your machine.
if it persists you need to run some scans.
if it then continues use another device.

this can get you in trouble....

Okay .. here's an idea to rule out ghosts or entities ...

You say the mouse pointer is moving on it's own?

Get a Quija board up on your screen. Find a site with one and get it on the screen.

Let the mouse arrow move on it's own and see if it starts pointing out words.

Let us know what happens. What it says ... (if anything)

Now you know that was wrong right? I still got a chuckle out of it!

Anyhow to OP, that has happened to me quite a few times. Try adjusting you mouse sensitivity and see if it stops.

I had that exact thing happen five years ago when someone hacked into my high speed phone line connection. I unhooked and shut down and when I rebooted, discovered that my initial password had been changed and that when I circumvented it I discovered someone was downloading music onto my computer. I alerted my ISP security and whenever I felt it happen again, I would disconnect etc.

Yes. Yes. I was just teasing. The thought that someone else .. or someTHING else .. was driving
the mouse pointer. So I thought I'd tease and say to put the Quija board in front of the arrow to see
what it was spelling. Just teasing. I'd never really recommend Quija ....

While its moving disconnect the machine from the net (unplug the ethernet cable or power off the router if wireless) and if it stops then its someone else, now it could be one of your friends has popped some remote control software on your machine and is having some lulz freaking you out at best and at worst its someone using your machine as part of a bot net or using your machine to click links for profit

make sure AV is working and upto date then download malwarebytes and then disconnect the machine from the net, install it and let it have a good look around while you check the list of installed programs for anything suspect then a full AV scan
