...I think that one major player in this investigation is responsible for that plane disappearing, whether by accident or design, very much more likely accident. ...

I have been leaning this way, myself, for some time.
...Where's Columbo when you really need him?

If it turns out to be the aircraft, I think we are looking at depths around 10,000 -12,000 ft.
Ballard equipment would be required.

Google Earth/Ocean is showing depths of high 15,000's to 17,000's...(feet)

Yes I consider take off and ascent prior to autopilot being turned on and crusing altitude reached as part of take off proceedings they were only 45 mins into their 6.5 flight and it takes a good duration to reach 35, 000 feet as part of "take off"

Weren't they at cruise altitude?

Just reposting my post from the other thread.

I have a sick feeling Australia is going to find the debris.

This would fold into my international relations -based theory that the US/Aus possibly other allies are responsible.

Australia is a strategic asset of the US in the SEA region. My belief is it will find the debris and It will then fall to Australia to start waging a 'war on terror' on SEA. The net effect of this will be to force countries to align themselves either with China or the US ('if you're not with us you're against us" type thing) as well as allow perhaps a greater military and intelligence presence in the region thus securing it further for western corporations.

It was George W. Bush's dearest wish for Australia to become the "sheriff" of SEA, a role which current conservative PM Tony Abbott is more than willing to take on as he loves bullying and is very good at it, as is his Foreign Relations Minister Julie Bishop (a glare that could kill at 100 metres). When this was tried before (under the conservative PM John Howard) SEA effectively shut Australia out of some trade talks and other regional think tanks. The Labor Party healed the rift to a degree during its time in power but but now the conservatives are back in power again, I would imagine it will stir quite the hornets nest in SEA if this comes to pass.

In short, God, i hope Australia doesn't find the debris.

THANK-YOU Liberty Gal. Someone here told me that the air-search was "old" news. I'll have to go back and log who that was.

I suppose if this really is the wreckage, we can presume that the pilot/co-pilot wasn't trying to steal the plane. If so, I hope a virtual "Wall of Shame" is constructed on the internet to highlight the "experts" and commentators who had these aviators tried and convicted with ZERO Evidence!

Hahahah!
That was good.
Hope you're both totally right and totally wrong...and...don't ask me to explain that (seeing that I live in the town, known as the Birthplace of good ole GWB).

Being on various commercial jets before ascent can take about to 30-45 depending on plane and this was a 777 afterall and its not like this is a space shuttle above the earths stratosphere...you take off and gradually, incrementally ascend to 35 000 feet. Hence why the keep seat built sign stays sometimes up to an hour from take off as wake turbulence is higher when ascending.

Yw, if you have Fox News, flip over, even if you hate them, they are covering it live, not based on theories but facts. It's been great coverage the past hour. They started breaking it just past midnight. I decided to try to transcribe the press conference due to the time of day.

The one heartbreaking part is he said the water there is very deep, likely an abyssal area, hence why we are not getting black box pings.

They are desperately seeking survivors. Let us hope...

Against all odds..

I'm going to say 24m shipping container .

Shipping containers are known as TEU and FEU for good reason.

FEU = Forty ft Equivalent Unit (12 metres)
TEU = Twenty ft Equivalent Unit (6 metres)

PS

Liberty Gal ... amen and god bless all those poor souls.

I was just catching up on my nightly read of this thread and I didn't mention this earlier because I figured it had been discussed. If this has been covered than just ignore the info.

Are ya'll aware the "good night" sign off came right AFTER the ACARS was turned off?

Earlier today, Malaysian officials dropped a bombshell. Based on a review of radio and radar data, the pilot of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 radioed air traffic control in Kuala Lumpur for the last time--after someone disabled the plane's data system.

After the floating materials are recovered, how many days will it take to determine if this is the wreckage from the Malaysian 777? Were certain panels that contain the plane's identification information specifically built to float?

P.S. Thanks for the press conference transcript and for the "Tip" regarding Fox New's coverage. I'm watching them now. What breath of fresh air compared to CNN's 7th grade mentality!

Was just thinking about the pilot's flight simulator.

He obviously was familiar with all the electronics, so what if he had another transponder in his flight bag (which was not searched).

He could have changed out the transponder in flight and turned it on at just the right time to slip into normal traffic in new airspace.

The flight path was programmed 12 minutes before the path deviated, so what's to say that's the only thing he messed with?

Just a thought.

If wreckage is recovered, I think they will be able to determine within minutes to hours, depending on what is recovered. They have a few more hours of daylight, and it was already stated the AGO, Australia's Intelligence, is on the way, or on scene. Also, the US Poseidon is on the way. Determining if it is the jet pieces should not be a difficult task. I don't think other jets have been reported as missing.

The fact that the PM announced this, means he feel fairly confident. He likely would not risk his reputation, as this was announced originially in parliament this afternoon.

Also, they just stated this was not far from the last KNOWN point of contact, allow for tidal flows and currents...

When you subtract about 3m from the 30m wing, then 24m sounds right.

I have just watched the news conference on the discovert of these new debris. I have to say that John Young from AMSA appeared to be very coy on divulging any information other than saying debris has been photographed via sattelite. No imagery was shown, Alan seemed to be curve balling reporters questions considering one stupi question from an anon reporter"when do you think you will bring the debris to RAAF Pearce or canberra" the reporter obviously had no idea on what infrastructure is needed as said in the conference the nearest naval vessel is 4 days ago.

I have to say the news conference was almost as non informative as the Malaysian news conferences. I hope that this is not another "lets get peoples hopes up and then dissapoint them" type event.

One other thing that concerns me is the re directioning of sattelites. I am aware they only have limited fuel on board, and owners of sattelites would usually limit any repositioning to avoid space debris. I would think owners would be now more reluctant to reposition now there is no way to service or repair them as there is now no Space Shuttle to perform refuels and repairs.

I know that the U2 at times operated out of Sale RAAF in Victoria many moons ago, I am not certain if it has now been retired though one would think it should be used as it has a long endurance and can perform better than a sattelite and has no issue in respect to repositioning.

I might be way off track with my thought so please dont flame me.

I would have thought the imagery would be shown, could there be something in these images they do not want us to see.
