Now that we seem to have gotten the kinks out of the debate forum... let's have some fun.

On June 1st, we'll begin the first Great ATS Debate Tournament.

We need contestants to participate in one-on-once civilized debate on a variety of topics. Here's the format.

- Contestants will sign up this week by sending me a U2U. Only U2U applications are accepted. Do not respond to this thread in hopes of applying to debate. Sign-up is closed at midnight EST May 30th. Normal rules of civilized debate apply.

- Several polls will appear allowing members to vote on the topics used for the debate. Top-voting topics will used, and randomly assigned to contestant pairs for their one-on-one debate.

- On May 31, I'll announce all of the contestants. And the first debates will begin June 1st.

- Each debate will consist of seven posts from each contestant, with a time limit of 5 days for the entire debate.

- At the end of your debate, polls will be launched for our members to vote on the winners. In the event of a tie, forum staff will decide the winner.

- Winners will move on to the next round. The number of rounds will be determined by how many contestants enter. We need at least 16 for this to work correctly.

- The championship debate topic will be chosen by a final poll of members.

Most of you might be wondering what the winner will receive. Well... it's not bad really... One Year of website hosting on the Digitaf8 server. It's a full service account with administration console, 20 anti-spam/anti-virus POP3 e-mail accounts, 500 megabytes of storage, 10 gigabytes of transfer, mySQL, PHP, and more (you must comply with our terms of service -- no spam, no porno, no illegal files, etc.). While this might seem like something others sell for $9.95 a month, I don't over-sell my server like the cut-rate services... so performance will be optimized. You'll also get a cool custom title.

Respond to this thread with comments on the format or suggestions for debate topics.

I would like to see a debate on Spies in a stateless world.

Would people find needs for intel groups, or not???

Just a thought.

Proof or denial of a world shadow government/social engineering, and exploration of the end goal of those activities?

I think we should have a topic for each forum. A topic that deals with the NWO, one with aliens, one with religion, one with politics, one for the war on terror, one on cryptozoology, one on famous people,a miscilaneous one, and a paranormal one. Can't think up of any individual ones for my idea.

whew, that would be a whole lot of debates

How about this to debate on: The Pros and Cons of a multi-party system.

OR

Are aliens passive or aggressive?

OR

"The NWO will be beneficial"
vs.
"The NWO are a bunch of psychopaths trying to subjugate humanity... and they worship dogbert."

OR

"Area 51 is used to contain extraterrestrials or their artifacts"
vs.
"Area 51 is just a cover"

Hope these are helpful

Well Xaos its a tournament so they'll be a few debates going on not just 2. I think we need one in each differnt forum topic like I said. It'll work out and it'll provide many debate options and a variety of differnt topics.

The only one up there that wouldn't work is the one about aliens. The reason that one won't work is because it would be highly likely that someone will pose the question, "Well what if there are good aliens, and bad ones???"

Can you see how that wouldn't work???

I do.

You see, someone is bound to conclude that there are bad aliens and good aliens, not just an abundance of both.

A better debate would be something like this.

If an alien race came to our planet, would they be hostile to our ways or would they be passive.

I think that debate would hold out longer. Don't you???

I am just trying to get other opinions here, while I give mine.

How about a debate on which its a 2 out 3 kind of thing. So the losing team still has a chance to comback or is it going to far.

Good idea AV, I knew that it was flawed, and I recognized that there could be two types of aliens, I just wasnt sure how to revise it. Thanks, your idea is perfect.

And in the shower today I thought about a drug debate: The pros and cons of drugs, or drug legalization.

I welcome anyone who thinks that they could add to my ideas like AV did.

This is a one-on-one debate format, no teams. If we switched to double elimination, it would take forever to complete.

We only have nine people signing up for the debate at this point.

We need at least 16 for this to work right in braket-style.

Come-on people! Just seven more!

Only 9!!!!!!!

William if you see this, send me a response confirming that I signed up, cause I never got word back from you. Did you get word from me??? I sent you a U2U. And somehow I find it really hard to believe that only 8 other people signed up.

This is sad.

I got you.

I just don't want to make public the names until everyone registers.

May I ask how the topics will be selected and if the topics are random. I would like to give it a shot, but my luck I'll get a religious topic and have to forfeit.

Here is a great topic. Barney vs telatubies which is more evil and disturbing?

How about a discussion on time

I am sure that will stir up a few things

Or on the other hand we could have a discussion on technology that has been surpressed and is now comming to the surface as well as the physics behind these science's

The line between what we precive to be truth and fiction is never really decided

let the games begin.
