This video is a recreation of that part of the Apollo 8 space mission which captured the iconic "Earth-rise Photo" which graced the cover of Time Magazine back in the late '60s. A slightly belated happy 45th anniversary.

Kudos to NASA and the LRO folks who took the time to put this together.

Following the video to YouTube is a lead to the NASA Goddard channel and a wealth of other interesting space related science!!

Yeah, I saw that video back when it came out. A very fascinating look at a moment in history. If you want to recreate the Apollo 8 mission in pretty exact detail, I highly recommend the NASSP 7 beta for Orbiter.

I think it gives a pretty good taste of what the mission was like and what it took to navigate to the moon and back.

I was a kid at the time. Imagine the impression that period of time left on me.

Thanks for putting up the APOD links. That site has been a gem for many many years. Anyone just finding it ... Prepare Yourself!!

The Earthrise scene is one of my favorites from the epic miniseries "From the Earth to the Moon".

I had just turned 5. I remember being bundled-up with my sisters, in the back seat of a car that was stuck in the snow at night in the wilderness, listening to men on a spaceship orbiting the Moon read to us from the Bible.

Man, it's dusty in here...

LOL. I remember me and my brother going out to the car so we could listen to the radio for such things. Amazing how far we've come technologically from those days, and it's a wonder that we didn't stay on that old course. Better or worse, here we are.
