I'm sure it wasn't a funny situation for you,but you definitely made it so. Star and flag for making me laugh so hard I cried.

Why thank you...
I find when I do rant
more people pay attention if I mix humor and irony rather than just lash out with explicative four letter words.
Unless I get a paper cut then cover your ears !!!!

Haven't you figured it out yet?

Your wife's car doesn't like you.

(Oh, I see you figured that out.)

Maybe ' your wife's car respects someone else's A-Tho-Rit-i...? LOL.

Your car has been programmed , baby...just not by you ! These computers learn... like you and me. Not to kick a dead horse - but, dammit... I had an EX with a dog like that !

Let me guess, the car has Sync?

I'm in an '08 focus - this was and is my first car with the voice features. My first time using it, I almost wanted to bash the car's radio out.

For example, I said "phone"...it took me to phone, like it was nothing. Then I said "call mom" - somehow, that sounded like "voice settings"; looking back, I probably looked like a crazy person yelling at their car to do one simple little thing.

My version of Sync being older, I found it nice that I could switch to USB, Line in, or something along those lines, but why in the [explicit] can't it go back to FM radio? Even Siri wasn't this bad, and at least she talked back.

PS: In my next car, if I'm going to be stuck with Sync, I want Stephen Hawking's voice for the car, that way, when I engage in an argument, at least I'll get some amusement out of it.

MMno.
Where I live is straight up and down and lifted trucks don't flip over that easy. I know because I've had many throughout the years and I have one now. The guy wrecked because he was drunk. If you seen some of the places we drive our trucks you would probably faint. That's what lifted trucks are made for! That and mudding or snow bogging. Well....I mean, I guess some yuppies have them now, but theirs are just for looks--but you know what I'm sayin'.

Voice recognition software is still in the very early stages of development. It will be at least another decade before we have voice recognition technology which you can rely on. It's an extremely difficult problem to solve programmatically because there are so many different accents and styles of speech. In fact it's so difficult that we don't attempt to program voice recognition ourselves, we typically train neural networks and similar types of structures to recognize words in audio data through a self-learning process. It's very much analogous to a slow evolutionary process. The longer we train them and the more computing power we throw at them and the more training data we supply them with, the better they become. But it will take quite a while before we train them well enough to understand human language as well as the human brain. The human brain has had millions of years to evolve and even I have trouble understanding some people because they speak with a weird accent. So when you think about, it's impressive that voice recognition software is already as good as it is now.

to give you a better idea of the kind of road I'm talking about

not the best kind of place to drive off the highway in any kind of vehicle right?

I understand what you're saying, but we have roads like that, and worse, too. I don't have any pics on this computer or I would post some. Roll-overs happen though, I'm not saying they don't, but it's usually driver error.

I actually use a rotary phone at home, it's 40 years old and works like a champ.

Hilarious story - had a bit of a moment myself today

Driving home from work, creeping along at about 5mph, do to the traffic caused by the rare snowstorm that is currently hitting the city (not sure it's even an inch, yet) and the radio is playing:

I've never owned a vehicle newer than a 97, but I know what you're talking about. I've had several friends and girlfriends who owned cars with voice activation. I've never seen it actually function properly. That's why I'm still driving an 80 firebird with (gasp!) manual windows and locks and a carburetor.

Lol, Sorry i had to chuckle a bit. Voice recognition software is still being and needing tweaked out. in most cases it does work good but it still has to learn the way you talk. people tend to pronounce words different. with any voice software today it takes a few working days to get everything right. Alot of times the software will require a setup where the software will learn how you say words. most the time they will have a paragraph for you to read aloud then base the software for that voice/speech pattern your wife prob did this when she first got the car. this is why she has no issues with the voice commands. you on the other hand it has no clue who or how you talk so it confuses the software. some software has no issues using 2 peoples voice patterns but you still might have to rerun the setup

Technology today is rushed off the blue prints and into production no matter how many
bugs are still left in the programming! This is to keep costs down and profits up. As long
as there are people purchasing these devices no matter the problems there will be dollars
coming in to cover the cost of production!
This is the world we live in! These problems are just incidental and as long as
these big corporations can control the flow of information then they have nothing to worry
about! I never was big on new gadgets and never will be the first to have that new techno
gadget that all our friends are going gaga over but then again I have never been one to
run with the pack!
This will be the way of things as long as we are living in a world controlled by materialism.
As long as some companies bottom line trumps our satisfaction and we will forever be slaves
to our manufactured desires, always being products of manipulation whether by the opinions
of our friends or coworkers or some social media ad that is portrayed in everything we are
exposed to!
So little of what we think has been generated by our own unbiased opinions! As a matter of
fact there are no individuals in this world of today as long as we are platforms of a materialistic
commercially modeled society! Is there any limit to commercialism in our society or do we have
no future without our corporate baby sitters and their control over every aspect of our lives?
I for one long to live back in a time where life might have been harder but at least satisfaction
was derived from personal accomplishment and not some gadget or possession!

LOL. Your thread made me laugh, I thoroughly enjoyed it ! :-)

Here is a video clip on a voice activated elevator prank.

I know your situation is what actually happened and not a prank...
You wrote it well. But anyways... here is another voice activated
funny thing.

enjoy
