The Volcano That Spews BLUE Lava!

oh wow , blue lava, that is rare , yet beautiful . awesome pictures . would love to see it in person. which volcano is this? ( wish my enter key on this thing WORKED) its a conbanation of blue and red lava . but wow ,thats all i gotta say..

It just says it's in Kawah Ijen. Didn't give a name for the volcano, that I read.

Blue lava is very cool.

Didn't know it existed.

Nice images, but i'm wondering what exactly the pipes and barrel shaped things are?

Are they actual pipes and barrels, or lava tubes...anyone know?

An active vent at the edge of the lake is a source of elemental sulfur, and supports a mining operation. Escaping volcanic gasses are channeled through a network of ceramic pipes, resulting in condensation of molten sulfur.[5] The sulfur, which is deep red in color when molten, pours slowly from the ends of these pipes and pools on the ground, turning bright yellow as it cools. The miners break the cooled material into large pieces and carry it away in baskets.

It's amazing. I always just assumed that volcanoes appeared that way because our eyes "interpret" extreme EM waves. It's absolutely beautiful.

That blue color is not the lava itself but the flames from the lava burning sulfur causing the blue flames. Sulfur does burn blue if it is fed pure oxygen.

If you look at the French video you can see close ups which shows the blue are flames and not lava.

Apparently according to the video that man has always had a passion for volcanoes, and he has gone all over the world taking pictures of them. I didn't watch the entire video but got to the close up of the blue flames. It is very interesting nonetheless.

I wonder if this is caused by high sulfur content, or some gas in the lava.

I just read about this and searched to see if it was already posted, and it was.

Just when you think the world cannot be anymore beautiful and amazing, you stumble across something like this.

You are correct-sulfur gas in the rock creates the blue fire.
It looks like the location of the "sulfur mine"section of the film "Samsarra."(Baraka sequel)
Not a nice place to work every day.
I got family in Indonesia,maybe one day I will get to visit this volcano I hope.
