io9.com...

Pretty much says an asteroid with a width of 650m (0.4 miles) is going to come within 300,000 miles to Earth.

Say hello to 2013 YP139 — a newly discovered 0.4 mile (650 meter) wide asteroid spotted by NASA's recently re-started NEOWISE spacecraft. Preliminary calculations show it'll come within 300,000 miles from Earth — thus qualifying it as a potential headache

I googled the lunar distance for that, and instead got a more shocking perspective on its closeness:

en.m.wikipedia.org...(astronomy)

In astronomy, a lunar distance (LD) is a measurement of the distance from the Earth to the Moon. The average distance from Earth to the Moon is 384,400 km (238,900 mi).

Now do we watch for the moon, or for our planet, or for the aliens to come out for disclosure by saving us with space technology? Jk about the latter.

Also, the first link says this, sorry doom porn junkies:

It could swing by at a distance closer than the Earth is to the Moon, but it won't do so within the next century.

Nice find
I see it has a 1 in 1,750 chance of hitting us, but If it did it would be 290 times more powerful than the biggest nuke ever tested.
Do you know If we will see it? It is very dark like coal but as it gets closer will we see it?.

Not to be a pain - but you've put 650 KM in your first part. Almost gave me a heart attack until I kept reading!

Well I suppose if we don't get hit now, we'll get hit eventually. I'm a glass half full kinda guy.

Do we have an ATS bookie to take bets?

I have no astronomy equipment or experience, I can't help with that one.

*Edit* I would also appreciate having the knowledge to eventually watch the night skies.
