The French Financial Markets Authority (AMF) announced on Nov. 14 that its Sanctions Commission had decided to slap fines on two bloggers, Frenchman Jean-Pierre Chevallier and American Mike “Mish” Shedlock, “for having spread inexact information about the level of indebtedness” of megabank Société Générale.
The same bank, incidentally, that entered the annals of the silly when it blamed and successfully hounded a low-level trader, the hapless Jérôme Kerviel, for its €5 billion zinger of a loss during the financial crisis, while other banks blamed their toxic assets.

The lengthy complaint went along the lines "I should accept as fact any numbers given to me by Société Générale".
The AFM has no jurisdiction over me, so they won't collect. As a US citizen living in the US, I am not subject to the absurdities of French laws, or French witch hunts. All they get from me is a vow to never go to France.

The U.S. 1st Amendment is a giant threat to them.
Americans need to learn that the rest of the world—and not just Muslims
—see no sense in the First Amendment. Even other Western nations take a
more circumspect position on freedom of expression than we do, realizing
that often free speech must yield to other values and the need for order.

So then they get to flag his name, and arrest him if he does ever try to go there?
But of course, wouldn't that put him on a list here in the US too?

Well this is laughable.
I would send them a letter telling them to go to hell. Are they going to be assisted by the US government in enforcing such a fine? For one of our basic rights of free speech.......
France needs to get their heads out of their asses. This only draws more attention to this guys information.
The banking cartel needs to take it down a notch. Their humanity is showing in all its ignorance and fear.

I am curious too, especially these days where everything is down
except the stock market, went over 16,000 today.
Nothing to see here, move along!

Mish should write them back saying "let them eat cake".
