Mon May 19, 2003 02:01 PM ET
MIAMI (Reuters) - This year's Atlantic hurricane season should be busier than normal, with six to nine hurricanes and two to four of those classified
as major storms, U.S. government forecasters said on Monday.
The outlook for the season, which runs from June 1 to Nov. 30, calls for 11 to 15 tropical storms with six to nine reaching hurricane strength and two
to four reaching major hurricanes strength, with top winds of 111 mph or more.
"In layman's terms, it could be really bad," Michael Brown, the Homeland Security Department's undersecretary for Emergency Preparedness, told
reporters.
