A single person age 66 non smoker making $30,000 will pay about $209/month when you factor in subsidies. The cost for health care for that person actually amounts to 19.7% of their income before any subsidy and that is before any copays or deductibles.

That same person if they make $40,000 will pay an additional $1,764 out of pocket for the same exact coverage.

Crazy world.

I think I am going to go to India and buy my own Private Doctor to take home with me to the U.S. I think it will be a cheaper way to go in the long run.

Another twist to ACA www.usatoday.com...

Health care providers announced more layoffs than any other industry last month — 8,128 — largely because of reductions by hospitals, according to outplacement firm Challenger Gray and Christmas. So far this year, the health care sector has announced 41,085 layoffs, the third-most behind financial and industrial companies.

This month, Indiana University Health laid off about 900 workers as part of a move to trim its budget by $1 billion over five years. Vanderbilt plans to eliminate 1,000 jobs by the end of the year to help shave operating costs 8% a year. The Cleveland Clinic is offering buyouts to 3,000 employees as it shaves its annual operating costs by $330 million.

Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance companies are all reducing reimbursement to hospitals. The federal budget cuts known as sequestration have cut Medicare reimbursement by 2%, the American Hospital Association says.

If people did their homework, they would see that insurance companies are making big gains in the stock market. Gains like 200 to 300%.

Bottom line?

Nothing will change.

I've seen this before, and would like to offer a small correction again.

Why the Republicans ever passed it only to stonewall over the budget over it's implementation makes it look like this whole showdown was engineered by both parties.
It may have been a typo on your part, but no Republican voted for it. It is entirely a Democrat bill.

Thanks for the correction and information Charles. I assumed some of them must have crossed over to get it through. Stupid me.
You just prompted me to go look who voted what on it. If it's entirely Democratic votes that forced this on us then I guess they will get to bear all the blame.
Cheers,
ATA

ETA - You are too kind. No, it wasn't a typo, sometimes I'm just ignorant. I did look the bill up and at least I know why I got confused. Arlen Specter changing parties plus all the similar bills that Republicans had introduced prior to passage of ACA. Thanks again for the gentle correction.

I may not make this thought as clear as maybe I should, but follow along for a bit and ponder the ponderables:

The need for pretense generally restrains government in much the same manner as it used to restrain the police. Before the militarization of the police in the wake of 9-11, officers perpetuated the lie of “to serve and protect” by presenting a comparatively benign face to the public. This required some level of good behavior. Brutality occurred behind closed doors and it was largely inflicted on those who had no voice in society. Today the police no longer close the door. They police use SWAT teams to raid organic farms, holding residents at gun point while they destroy okra plants. They kill harmless family pets as a routine part of intimidating harmless people. The mask has fallen.

In the 1980s the people in the Soviet Union (and many other countries both south and north around the globe) did not have the illusion of “we are the government” or “the police are there to help you.” They knew government could order pain and death and the police were its agent soldiers.

One of the most alarming trends in American politics is the lack of pretense being displayed by authority. Like a ravening beast that loses its fear of humans, government becomes more dangerous when it loses the need to pose as a public servant who performs legitimate tasks. In short, government becomes more dangerous when it doesn't care what you think of it. The sentence-long version of the argument for pretense is this: the need to pretend is a restraint upon authority.

There was a rep from Colorado who actually said he did not care what the people thought...He was removed by recall... The point being; how could any elected official say he did not care about the people who placed him in government to voice their desires and opinions?

The pretense used to be that a politico's actions were for the greater good, pure altruism, for the children, an expression of public service, to stave off climate warming , for global peace, to advance women's rights but those platitudes seem to be wearing thin by those who are only slightly informed..

We the American people pay taxes which in turn are spent on programs and pork that I assume most Americans would not agree to. Yet our representatives are there to give voice to their constituents, No?.

The problem as I see it is..... to be elected to the Senate or Congress requires mega bucks which very few in the base/constituents have laying around and are willing to give; thus enter the Corporations who will give with an understanding there are strings attached.

The government is becoming more like a corporation in that "Piss off your boss and what happens, you are fired".

The government and it's enforcers are still trying to maintain some slight pretense until the cameras are not around and then the gloves come off; heads are cracked or people go to jail on false pretenses like resisting arrest for trying to fend off a beating by holding your hands up to thwart the blows descending upon one's head. The very act of enforcers "out to get someone" even if they have to lie is repugnant and scary and really should remain in the domain of the mafia or drug cartels not representative government.

"There is no crueler tyranny than that which is perpetuated under the shield of law and in the name of justice.”—Charles de Montesquieu

I could be wrong ( I have been before) but the way Obamacare is set up with it's enforcement guidelines and the cost of the program to those who cannot afford anymore of anything could be classified a conspiracy; to what end depends on your world view I suppose. But at this stage I don't like anything about it for it was fostered on the American people based on lies or let's pass it so we can see what's inside the bill... Even I am not that stupid.

Obamacare is just atrocious. I just got letters for my kids insurance. My son's (7 Months) letter informed us his insurance is canceled effective January 1st. His new Obama plan would be 5k more in deductible, 200 more per month for LESS coverage than he has now. He has a fantastic plan right now. New plan would be not even half as good + much more expensive. My daughter's (4 Years old) letter informs us her plan is grandfathered in so she gets to keep it but wait for it.... Mental health, Chiropractic, Dental, & Certain specialists are no longer covered. Also the deductible on the policy is increasing. Oh and they did the highest % "legal" rate hike that they we're allowed for her plan. My small business employees will no longer have health insurance coverage through us because of the absorbent costs. There's literally only 1 plan option we were given by the government health care exchange per their small business regulation.

Great job Obama....

I don't understand how your 7 month old gets the boot, while your 4 year old doesn't?
Their both your kids, they both had the same policy with your prior to this ACA.

They actually had separate policies. When my son was born they wouldn't allow us to put him on my daughter's plan because they had discontinued the plan.

The people who actually wrote this bill would probably get lynched were they to announce it on a street corner somewhere. Why the Republicans ever passed it only to stonewall over the budget over it's implementation makes it look like this whole showdown was engineered by both parties. But why? What are they going to do with this situation they've created? That's what really worries me.
Every day a new story about ACA comes out showing just how damn expensive, complex and overbearing it is. I think we're in for one hell of a rough ride.

You can find out there names - search for the string "Obamacare Architect". Every single one of them is now working for a pharmaceutical, insurance or healthcare implementer.

I think I can get a job in Mexico doing what I do. Costa Rica, maybe.

The wife is bilingual, i speak about 1.4 languages, myself.

Maybe the US isn't my home anymore. I am tired of being angry.

Nothing at all. When I try to talk to people about what I've learned at work, they try to tell me they know better, by reiterating CNN talking points.

People might not realize it until tax season, and a year out that the biggest risk here is the FINES FOR NOT GETTING INSURANCE. I have a couple of co-workers who are single with no dependents, and are not planning on getting any health insurance at all literally because it's not affordable and they have generally GREAT health - are yogis, and are not fans of the medical industry anyway.

The fines will get the same amount of money from people like them.... =(
America is DYING

This is an attempt at intertwining a socialist style health program in a capitalist economy. Epic FAIL

It was passed by Democrat majorities in both houses-- that is what led to the Republicans winning a majority in congress during the next election. But to undo it, anti-Democrats will have to control both Houses and the Presidency. Right now the effort has been to delay it from the House of Reps---with both the Senate and The Pres willing to let the country default rather than agree to delay the Individual Mandate of ACA for one yeaer.
