Akragon
Can't we just use the old ones?

Can't we just read what's in a thread?

(it's a short one too, just one page)

yeh I read it... just expressing my distaste for them

Seems to be a reoccurring theme for me these days...

And now I understand...Kinda, sorta, um...

Hell not really, when it comes to programming that is, but I think I get where ATS is coming from. A universal font. Yes?

And thanks for speaking slowly to this old Neanderthal.

I like em

This one rocks...

If you have the site set to dark side they do look better.

Agree. Site set to dark works for me.

Love that we have a choice! Means I can browse in the dark - in bath at the minute waiting on the dawn!

LOL

Can we call them that officially?

I'm with you, TDR, don't care for the new emoticons, and don't understand what was wrong with the old ones. The thumbs-up and thumbs-down emoticons are also conspicuous in their absence.

There are any number of other issues which make the new ATS format inferior and problematic:

First off, I can't read the member info for the OP, as well as that of a few other posters here. White on gray? Are you serious, ATS? Skeptic Overlord has said that user input has been heavily requested; however, I don't know it was paid attention to. I distinctly remember in some feedback thread someone complaining about this very issue, yet the problem still exists. Here's a crazy suggestion: Why not use black print for the member info above and below the member's avatar? Here is what white on off-white/gray looks like: Good times

As others have said, the site seems less navigable.

Also, some of the symbols for various buttons are very vague and unintuitive, e.g. the down arrow button, which one must click in order to view one's members' tools/options.

I undertand that the idea of this new format was to be more smart phone friendly. Well, a lot of us don't use smart phones, or bother viewing this site with one. But more to the point: why degrade a good format for computer users? Why not have a choice of which format to view? Wouldn't that be easy enough to do?

And for the folks who say "things change" or "accept change", etc., I just have this to say: blow it out your ears. Change for the worse is not change for the better. Frankly the minimal contrasts in colors, i.e. all shades of gray and white is very lackluster and makes it harder to read things.

Don't see myself clicking as many pages at ATS as before. Time will tell if the increase is phone views will make up for decreased computer views, but I'd wager dollars to donuts that this new format is not going to increase viewership, and will turn off many of the fairly long-term members.

A hearty two thumbs down on the new format/look/design.

P.S.: Reading some comments here in this thread, people are talking about being able to view ATS "on the darkside", like there is an option? What is this about? Does one have to read a specific thread to find out about such features? Why for the love of all that is holy can't there be an obvious button to switch the look? Oh now I see: it's one of those obscure buttons that makes no sense at the top of the page. Who needs words when you can have obscure symbols, which make no sense, huh?

Been a while since I was around to read a bit. New looking site, I see. It sucks. Especially the emoticons. And it always surprises me when people think it's a good idea to change something that works. I suppose some people have too much time on their hands.

It is also fascinating to see some members growel for the owners, like they have no clue that it is of course the members' contrubutions and posts/threads that provides the platform which the owners have their ad income from. From an economical and common sense point of view, the groveling should be the other way round.

And seriously, where did they find these horrible emoticons? At a forum garage sale somewhere?

Ta ta, peeps.

Not that anyone cares but ...... I love the new site .... I can see it so much better.
I HATE the new smilies. I want the old ones back. They were lively. These
remind me of the 'yuk' stickers we had as kids that our parents put on poisonous
bottles in the kitchen cupboard. I can't see them well and I can't figure out
which one goes with which emotion ....

But overall, the rest of the new site I really like.

Are you taking suggestions? I'm thinking the proverbial unhappy face with a hand flipping off the middle finger. No?

But seriously, I really miss the nodding head icon.

Just a edit to cover up another disastrous TDawg experiment.

[size = 8]Me Goofy
[ /size]

Now, remove the space before and after the = (equals sign)
Then remove the space before the / (forward slash)

(I had to include the spaces, otherwise you would not see how it is written. It would simply appear as resized text.)

It will look like this:

Me Goofy

Written direction, no spaces unless noted:

Open bracket, the word 'size', equals sign, size number, closing bracket, text to be sized, open bracket, forward slash, the word 'size', closing bracket.

Written directions with symbols, no spaces unless noted:
Open bracket [, the word 'size', equals sign =, size number, closing bracket], text to be sized, open bracket[, forward slash/, the word 'size', closing bracket]

Place any text or symbol/s you wish to resize in the space labeled 'text to be sized'

-or-

[size=,8]pfft
[,/size]

Remove the commas in the above example to get this:

pfft
