Towel draped over my canvas,
I’m hidden from your eyes,
am I growing uglier,
so much so you despise?

My cheeks, orange like carrots
pulled from the volcanic earth.
Wrinkles like furrows in a potato farmer’s field,
your stinky oil exuding from my veins.

My god, with a small g, look at me!
I am no mirror image, but a vain fantasy.
Painted to your incessant humming,
“unforgettable, that’s what you are…”

Can’t you see, or is truth so blurred?
“Happiness is not having what you want,
but wanting what you have.”
“I want you to want me.”

Thanks Slayer, I always appreciate your stopping bye. This poem was born out of a workshop exercise where we had a number of diverse content we were to incorporate. I am a late bloomer and have been seriously writing for about a year now. I appreciate feedback.

Thanks Doc! I really encourage you to write. Poetry no longer has to be stuffy. It is very cathartic and helps me achieve some clarity in my life. Peace to you my friend.
