Pardo's Push

The video is about Pardo's Push which was an aviation maneuver carried out by Captain Bob Pardo in order to move his wingman's badly damaged F-4 Phantom II to friendly air space during the Vietnam War after they were hit by anti aircraft guns.

Some very risky maneuvers were attempted that day which resulted in saving his fellow pilots. After, (nearly 20 years later) he recieved the Silver Star.

Vid is only 4 mins long, but very interesting.

What struck me about it was the attitude of the pilots of that era.

With so many shot down over the north, they held each other as much more important than their planes.

I'm betting that "move" wouldn't be part of any pilot training regimen, these days. Probably more like a general court martial for even attempting it!!

Scarcity of pilots then, scarcity of planes/cost now.

A different breed of cat....

They tried. There was even a team sent out to several bases deconstructing the incident and discouraging/disparaging it in no uncertain terms. He was brought up on charges, but they were dropped before a courtmartial could be convened.

You would know about the legend of an F111 landing with a dead pilot then?
