Well it's not like we didn't know it was happening but we now have concrete proof, it's now fact rather than conspiracy theory... now it's time to fight back.

A coalition of 85 technology companies, organizations and privacy advocates — including the American Civil Liberties Union and the Electronic Frontier Foundation — launched a website Tuesday calling for a special congressional committee to investigate the National Security Agency’s secret surveillance program.

Sina Khanifar, participating advocate and founder of FixtheDMCA.org, told Mint Press News in a statement that the “Stop Watching Us” movement is intended to push the government to create an investigative Congressional body similar to the Church Committee, which was formed to investigate the Watergate scandal in the 1970s.

“As it stands, we simply don’t know the scope of the NSA’s surveillance programs,” he said. “Greater transparency is critical.”

I won't include the direct link to the petition site as it's against TC's but it's there in the article. Personally I think a populist demand for a congressional investigation is a great step but there's other things you can do. Of course you can write to your corporate shill in office, but also we can make it a major campaign issue in 2014, by not letting this story fade away... you can also become consumer aware and make decisions about the sites and companies you support with your money and time.

I hear a lot of "we can't fight the money" but something far too many people seem to have forgotten is, that yes it's true as individual donors we don't have the power of Exxon or the SEIU but year after year what we do donate usually comes up higher than corporate/union donations. Politicians cater to the former simply because they don't want to lose such large single donations... they forget they stand to lose the most by losing us, the common voter. Combined we have the higher dollar amount... we also have the votes.

Now we have to show it. We still have social media despite how heavily it's watched, it's still ours and we can use it to buck this two party charade. Speak up.. everywhere you can. You don't have to go whole hog in support of a specific person, just the idea that we have other options. You can also write op-eds or reader letters in your local news papers, start a group, get visible... wear t-shirts, hats... anything that conveys both party's are essentially the same or that both have sold out the people.

Both party's have failed at their jobs, to represent and serve the people, it's time to fire them and reclaim our power.

Already the backlash of the public has politicians on their toes and in full spin mode (as the article points out) and pointing fingers, this is our chance, let's not lose momentum. As this issue tries to become partisan never miss the opportunity to point out that they are both guilty.

And let's not forget, Snowden is not a traitor. How can you betray a government that has already betrayed the people it serves?

Its too bad we need to demand an investigation by so called "experts".

Every person can do their own investigations. Sadly National Security trumps everything so the only way to try and get somewhere is to get someone with clearance to do the work.

Sucks when those are the people who could be bought out to keep those secrets secret.

I don't think we need to worry about the story fading away, there is a lot more to come out about this. Remember, Snowden reportedly had top secret clearance by his employer, he had complete access to the system his employer was using at the NSA, and that means he probably had access to information about the new Utah facility also.

If you think about the groups the NSA would have potentially been watching, within the USA, this could become extremely interesting indeed.
