When will Britain (and Ireland) pull out of this shame? A complete waste of licence fee payers money.

I dont know what wrong with you all. Eurovision is TV gold, just get seriously tanked up and cry with laughter all the way through - it's an annual ritual for me, i even watched the semi finals this last two years. Last year i was so wasted i could hardly see straight for three days afterwards and a fantastic time was had by all.

no, it's not, i mean it more in the modern parlance as in "it's a bit rubbish"... montenegro usually put in something a bit racey, or just plain bat poop.. they did some number a couple of years ago that was actually good. but then maybe it was a deliberate chemical imbalance in my brain? either way i loved it.

there are always some lady-based delights on the show too.

For me, the songs can be quite unimportant. It's more the cultural snobbery/hilarity and general crapness of pop music in general, as well as the "message" and often very broken-english. Oh yes, and the sets/dancing/fake tans/outfits.

Big in Sweden it seems. I totally read like 3 pages of YT comments on that vid (popular with 12 year old girls it seems) and then i honestly read his page on wikipedia he's had a few albums out, won some scandinavian pop contests and his father is Lebanese

so how much does it cost us? i really have no idea, but i'm certainly entertained so it's not entirely pointless. i just hope there are other folk in euroland wetting themselves at how bad it is.

The BBC has rejected claims that the Eurovision Song Contest is a waste of money. Liberal Democrat MP Richard Younger-Ross has tabled a Commons motion which calls on the corporation to withdraw its £173,000 funding for the annual contest. Mr. Younger-Ross described the voting as a "joke" after the UK finished in joint last place this weekend. However, the BBC has insisted that it will continue to provide funding for as long as the competition is a ratings winner. An average of 7.1 million viewers tuned in for the contest on Saturday night. A spokesman told The Mirror: "As far as the BBC is concerned, this represents great value for money for its viewers."

So £173,000 divided by 7,100,000 people who watched and (hopefully) all pay the licence fee.

That equals 2.4p per person who watched.

Not bad.

Bargain! One presenter of MOTD or a drama actor gets more than that in a year... Seriously, thats well worth it for the laughs and we'll never win it and have to host it etc. Anyone who begrudges that needs a sense of humour upgrade

+ A couple of hundred grand

= Cheap TV for the evening and no chance of ever having to fork out millions to host the thing!
