So I can either pay a Gen Xer $85k a year (which he demands for is work experience, education, and his family/personal needs)

Or

I can pay a Y'er $35k a year (which is a lot of money when you're 22)

Star for you sir,
and thank you for that.
This is the crack in America we have to exist in.

ON all cylinders,
nobody wants us to exist.

From Yahoo news, seven days ago.

"Generation Xers are woefully under-saved for retirement, but to turn things around and get them on track for a secure retirement, education will be critical," she says. The irony is that education got Gen X-ers into debt in the first place.

Yahoo news / Generation debt good bad and ugly

So which is it?

Are we "woefully" undersaved,
or did we cause it?

These sick ego stroking fools
don't think we can hear them
shoveling dirt on our heads.

This is the only representative Generation X may ever have.

Do you know what this makes us.

The most dangerous generation in the history of the world.
Only to be approached in a glass box.

The collapse of the housing market has hit X-ers hard. X-ers too often overpaid for properties which are now underwater and may never return to their purchase prices. What’s more tougher credit market standards will lock many out leaving them marooned, impecunious, and miserable, thereby producing lots of unhappy X-ers and broken marriages.

No, all of your money is being diverted into the war machine for capitalist interests, and all the jobs have been sent to China, for capitalist interests.

What do you expect to happen to welfare when that happens?

It's your capitalism that required the need for a welfare system in the first place. Stop blaming the poor and those smart enough to work the system. They are robbing you far less than capitalist are. Profit, surplus value, war, profit, family and social breakdown, profit, poverty, profit, work injuries, wasted resources, profit. The profit never ends, but peoples lives do.

Generation X — whose members include Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, both 38, and Facebook Inc. Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg, 42 — is much smaller than its predecessor. “When boomers were in middle management, they didn’t have pressure from Generation X leapfrogging them because it’s not a huge group,” says Hewlett, who is the director of the Gender and Policy Program at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. “We think that Generation X is certainly feeling this more strongly because the boomers are delaying retirement.”

Generation X caught behind wall of Boomers

The generations before and after us
are playing with all the toys WE MADE
while jamming fingers in their ears
if we dare to try and speak.

You had a hard life, awwww..... poor thing. Tell that to the woman I work with from Mexico, who snuck out in the middle of the night, at 14, swam across the Rio Grande, got into this country, and then worked her butt off and spent YEARs trying to get her U.S. Citizenship (which she finally did). I'll bet you don't know what a tough life is, other than not having an iPhone with an unlimited data plan.

I have never had an iPhone, or any kind of phone with internet connection and all that, but I did get left to raise alone two small children from the age of 9 until 15, and was homeless for periods.

But let me tell you about that Mexican ladies kids in the 70's.....
They filled the classes up in elementary school. I was the only white kid in mine. The problem was- they didn't speak any english! So for the first three years, they had to use all the day to teach them english before they could move on to anything else. Since I already spoke english, they would send me outside and have me sit at the base of a tree by myself all day.

So by fourth grade, I ha not begun to learn my multiplication tables, or anything about history (luckily I taught myself to read, at least). But worst of all that age is when you learn how to be social, how to be part of a group, how to play with other kids. I was not only uneducated, I was socially handicapped. Probably doesn't matter because at fourth grade that is when my druggie parents decided to change their life and they both went their different ways, leaving us alone... so I didn't have time to socialize anyway after that. Had to earn a living, feed the kids, protect the mentally retarded one and make sure she gets dressed in the morning.

But the mexican kids probably did okay. The educational system was very concerned about them.

I don't get the comment about the Xers having invested in the stock market?? In their 20's and 30's? While they had young children?

I have never invested in the stock market or anything else, myself. Have you? No one I know my age did.
We have no savings though. We never have. We have always had low salaries and just tryign to get a home for our our family took up everything we made.

Only parents and step parents (Boomers) had investments in the stock market. Real dad is a stock broker, actually. They claimed they lost so much, but it is strange, their lifestyle never changed (?). They are all living pretty well, either off of huge retirement plans, or still high salaries.

But my cousins, however, my age, who had no investments, most of them lost their homes. That was all they had to lose.

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded -- here and there, now and then -- are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as "bad luck".

Last year,
when ever I tried to discuss this...
there were just too many other topics going on.

This passed through the news mill ...
Huffington / Generation X has suffered massive loss of Wealth
in June 2012

I blame the boomers.
I blame the gen-y, and later...

Mike Grouchy

Yep that's right. Blame everyone but yourself. You've just done what every generation in history has done.

Go take a reality pill and tell me why my kids are not in your position yet are where they are without my help? Could it be thinking, learning, not taking risks, not following everyone else but researching first, if you make a mistake learning from it...????

You a sad ass whinger who needs to blame someone else to feel better for your own mistakes and failings, or at the very least - bad choices.

Grow up and change or shut up and stop blaming. Your like an obese person blaming the quality of food yet refuses to stop eating it. It's called insanity.

I'm one of the generation Xers that has suffered since the beginning on this massive loss of , but for a long tome I said the same thing, ” wow its kind of weird that t the worse you make things on me the worse it seems to get for everybody” usually its with alot of verbal emphasis, because I work too hard to be this friggin poor. So parts of what you said really rang home with me so I felt I should chime in.

LOL- The Baby Boomers always being so self rightious....

has anyone ever heard one of them make any type of admittance to any responsibility at all for any problem existing, on a personal scale, or a larger social scale?
I never have. Ever.

Mike, I know its hard but try harder not to let the world poison your soul. Take up yoga or something. I've been doing kundalini yoga for a while now and it really helps. It's a miracle, if you give it a chance.

I was born right in the middle of GenX and I was a middle child of a crippled alcoholic Irishman. Three strikes. I share your pain. Let me share a partial remedy with you too.

Well, you wallow in your self pity and loathing, playing the blame game with no mirror. Swim in it, until you get all pruny.

This "discussion" is not worth the cost of more bandwidth to me.

One thing is for sure. Early baby boomers had a much easier time in the job market. For most of them ,when they joined the job market, they could leave one job in the morning and get another one in the afternoon.

Later Generation X by contrast often found it very difficult to get a job at all or to start a career. A fact that was sometimes met with credulity by baby boomers who couldn't quite understand that the world had changed.

Baby boomers definitely got the best of it, growing up in a boom.

They still are with their unfunded social security/health programs that must be paid for by those still working. They also benefited from the crazy increase in house prices while generation X, if they could even afford to buy a houses, were later hit by negative equity as house prices fell.

Early baby boomers had it better and they still are. And those still working are paying for it.

That's the truth.

I remember some of my first interviews...
The interviewer would coyly ask "do you have any experience"
knowing it was my first time looking for a job.

They thought it was funny,
beating us over the head with the word "experience".
Like they thought they were Jimmi Hendrix or something.
