For those of you clinging to the notion that Obama is NOT a socialist, take a look at this. Former Obama administration regulatory czar Cass Sunstein published an op-ed following the inauguration. He is calling for a second Bill of Rights like the one first proposed by Franklin Roosevelt.

President Obama’s drive for dramatic reforms in American politics and policy is a near copycat of Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s 1944 push for a Second Bill of Rights, according to one legal scholar, Cass Sunstein.

FDR announced a Second Bill of Rights in his 1944 State of the Union speech, claiming “we have come to a clear realization of the fact that true individual freedom cannot exist without economic security and independence,” Mr. Sunstein said, in a Bloomberg report.

Here are the highlights of what FDR proposed:

*The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the nation.

*The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation.

*The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living.

*The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad.

*The right of every family to a decent home.

*The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health.

*The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident and unemployment.

*The right to a good education.

“Obama’s second inaugural did not refer explicitly to the Second Bill of Rights,” he said, in the Bloomberg report, “but it had an unmistakably Rooseveltian flavor. Just after a serious economic crisis, Obama emphasized ‘that a great nation must care for the vulnerable, and protect its people from life’s worst hazards and misfortune.’ Recalling Roosevelt’s central theme, Obama said that ‘every citizen deserves a basic measure of security and dignity.’

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone because Sunstein has been at this for quite some time, which is why many of us questioned some of Obama’s political appointments and use of czars.

In April 2005, Sunstein opened a conference at Yale Law School sponsored by George Soros’ Open Society Institute entitled, “The Constitution in 2020.” The event was designed as a forum to craft the agenda and assign the tasks for changing the nature and interpretation of the Constitution into a fully “progressive” Marxist Manifesto by the year 2020.
link

Sunstein is counting on the fact that a majority of Americans are not aware of FDR’s socialist plans. It should be apparent to all that Obama is following FDR’s script.

This is the fundamental transformation that Obama[snipped] voted for. This is NOT what the founding fathers prescribed. Do not mistake these feel-good policies for anything other than socialism. Freedom to pursue happiness and create a good life in America is no longer acceptable to some....now many are practically demanding a nanny state.

I'm losing track of the comparisons to what President he and his people most want to say he's like? Is it Lincoln, Roosevelt or Reagan? They'd have us believe, it seems sometimes, they are all interchangeable.

In reality, I believe if those 3 men were alive and left in a room alone, it would be a very noisy, rough and rather final settlement of ideology which only one would emerge from. They're anything but interchangeable. Obama, likewise, has nothing to directly compare with any of those 3 men. He'd LOVE to...and it shows he wants it so bad it vibrates with him. He's not anywhere near a 'Great' President yet and I can't see with just the reality of numbers and national state of affairs, he'll ever be,

* Great, Average and Below Average are actually ratings with substance and meaning ...as I learned during the college version of 101 Am-History and Political Science..I was also surprised to see what determined how a President fell into that chart. Who fell where was even more interesting. Everyone ought to look into that sometime. It puts the current man in the Oval in better perspective to those who have come before, I think.

Titles are not important….intent is.

Regardless what you call it, Obama wants an entitlement society and he wants to rule it.

“The right to own a home”?? Isn’t that the kind of crap that gave us the Fanny-Freddie housing bubble fiasco?

Well of course. Now that IS where Obama seems to borrow from past Presidents. Why is it always the worst ideas they came up with though?

"A chicken in every pot" ...and a home to cook it in. Yessir! A right to everyone ... in Utopia, perhaps. Someone will have to tell me where that place is though? It kinda looks like hell under a different name here in our world.

I think that this would not work with the second amendment still in tact. I believe the founding fathers knew this day was coming and they have left traps and snares for those foolish enough to attempt to destroy our most sacred document. This will work out in favor of the people when the time comes.

Interesting that members of congress and other branches of government are exempt from paying taxes. I think they forgot the golden rule. "Do unto others as you would have others done unto you" That being said anyone foolish enough to attack the rights of an armed populace are signing themselves a death warrant and are deserving of the very same fate they wish to impose on the great people of this nation. They have become tyrants and oppressors. Mark my words they will fall victim to their own folly. The beauty of the second amendment is that it won't be needed until they try to take it away.

Also, the definition of insanity is to attempt the same thing over and over again expecting different results. That means those who wish to impose strict gun control laws or an attempt at socialism or communism are certifiably insane, therefor by their own standards, they themselves should not have the right to bear arms.

Or to quote Ben Franklin.

"Those who would give up Essential Liberty
to purchase a little Temporary Safety,
deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

or Sam Adams

"In a state of tranquillity, wealth, and luxury, our descendants would forget the arts of war* and the noble activity and zeal which made their ancestors invincible. Every art of corruption would be employed to loosen the bond of union which renders our resistance formidable. When the spirit of liberty, which now animates our hearts and gives success to our arms*, is extinct, our numbers will accelerate our ruin and render us easier victims to tyranny. If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude than the animating contest of freedom—go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!"

There is an old saying you get what you pay for and in the current "entitlement culture" that has never rung more true.

If your not paying for anything really think that is going to be worth anything?

Nope just shifts the burden on to the rest of us., and if people are so interested in getting rid of monopolies get rid of government.

The biggest monopoly in the world.

The second Bill of rights, the dream shared by FDR and Obama’s gang, will do nothing but drag down the producers. The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money and what then are we left with? Socialism will drag everyone down to the same level rather than lifting everyone up to the same level.

Are you interested in anything else Cass Sunstein has written?

How about:

Many millions of people hold conspiracy theories; they believe that powerful people have worked together in order to withhold the truth about some important practice or some terrible event. A recent example is the belief, widespread in some parts of the world, that the attacks of 9/11 were carried out not by Al Qaeda, but by Israel or the United States. Those who subscribe to conspiracy theories may create serious risks, including risks of violence, and the existence of such theories raises significant challenges for policy and law. The first challenge is to understand the mechanisms by which conspiracy theories prosper; the second challenge is to understand how such theories might be undermined. Such theories typically spread as a result of identifiable cognitive blunders, operating in conjunction with informational and reputational influences. A distinctive feature of conspiracy theories is their self-sealing quality. Conspiracy theorists are not likely to be persuaded by an attempt to dispel their theories; they may even characterize that very attempt as further proof of the conspiracy. Because those who hold conspiracy theories typically suffer from a crippled epistemology, in accordance with which it is rational to hold such theories, the best response consists in cognitive infiltration of extremist groups. Various policy dilemmas, such as the question whether it is better for government to rebut conspiracy theories or to ignore them, are explored in this light.

Indeed.

People will find, however, that the soviet constitution had no effect on massive poverty, corruption, unemployment, disease, famine, or warfare.

There is no liberty in it. What the government gives it can and will take away when it is faced with a choice between its own survival and yours.

Oh, I know. He’s a real tool. These elitists all think only their ideas matter. To them, the rest of us are nearly incapable of thought, and they are quick to try and shut down those of us that can form a thought.

You really have to question Obama's intentions, judgement and intelligence when he appoints people like Cass Sunstein to his administration.

Obama is the president. He can propose anything he wishes. (Apparently a budget is too much to ask for)

But it would take congress to ratify this.

And as we all are aware, congress is made up of self-serving weasels. They won't sign their own pink-slips.

In my humble opinion.

Could not this Thomas Sowell quote also apply to the politicians themselves?

I propose here that politics is no longer a public service, or even a vocation; rather, it has become a caste of its own within our society.

Whichever of the "two" parties you think you side with, in the end you are only guaranteed that you are siding with the politicians.

In the meantime, they are VERY well compensated and VERY well taken care of... by YOU and ME... no matter WHAT they do or don't do.

And when was the last time you could say to yourself "Hey, (insert name of any politician here) has really done right by me, just like he (or she) promised during their campaign."

And, in the meantime, we are being fed a red herring which is turning us, the lower caste, against each other.

No matter what political cause celebre you cling to, I guarantee that those in power inject just enough of the smoke-and-mirrors dynamic into it to misdirect us into laying the blame on each other, rather than where it belongs.

The phrase "Divide and Conquer" is ubiquitous on this forum. I wonder how many among us actually stop to think about what that phrase means, or wonder if maybe the tactic isn't being applied to We the People right at this very moment...

Ask yourself who is doing the Dividing, and just who is being Conquered.

Didn't win the lottery today...

Had grinds in my coffee..

Burnt out headlight.

Stepped in poo in the yard.

Damn it Obama, why do you do all these things to me?

This is the mentality of those who seem to worship the idea of hating Obama. It's kind of funny, cause the opposite are those fanatical " He's my President" types.

You know what Obama is really good at? Why globalists love to have him at the helm like he is? Cause he plays ball, and he's soooooo good at changing or influencing the national conversation.

Just look, last week Gun Control, new wee Immigration. That's a hell of a leap policy wise. Obama isn't a socialist. If he was, then the healthcare package would have included a public option, which mind you was popular among voters at the time.

What Obama can be described as is a globalist scum bag. Just like all of his friends and colleagues in most seats of high power in the US. Romney was no different, he was just on overdrive.

Besides, how can you have inherent, 'God Given' rights if the government has the ability to add to them?

Seems a bit strange.

Sure…

That seems to be the case. We went from a representative democracy to authoritarian rule. They have placed themselves on a higher plane and expect us to accept it….I do not.

Whichever of the "two" parties you think you side with, in the end you are only guaranteed that you are siding with the politicians.

Very true! The two parties are pushing the same agenda with only a few minor differences IMO. This thread is about the current regime and its agenda. I have not made any assertions about the other party in this thread. I only care about the actions of the people calling the shots right now. We've already seen that nobody from the other political party is going to do much to change the course we're on. Both sides are more worried about their own power to be bothered with our concerns.

Did I come across like that? I thought I laid out the topic of the OP fairly well.

I didn’t think mods engaged in political trolling.

So because of the exclusion of the “public option” this entire OP is somehow discredited and Obama and his buddy Cass Sunstein have no socialist agenda now?

I think their actions and words speak louder than your opinions.

Well, I have to agree with that. That doesn’t change the socialist FDR agenda he’s pushing though.

The progressive mindset is a sickness. The symptoms include fear, apathy, intolerance, hate, arrogance. When will the middle of the road liberals wake up and see they are being fooled on a grand scale.

Just like Bush fooled all of the conservatives the liberals need to WAKE UP. Do you see Romney in power? It is because many conservatives including myself see the simple truth now. Both sides of the aisle are ruled by one master.

One last thing to the liberals who are still following their progressive masters. I hope your chains fall lightly on your shoulders.

Did you see a reply to box above my post? I was not referring to anything you wrote, only the contents of the video, links and my thoughts. I don't see how my status as a mod has anything to do with what I, or you had to say.

Bad form Seabag.

I was merely pointing out that some people feel the need to blame Obama for anything they can, rational or not.

Sure, they may have socialist ideas and some projects that are socialist, but the overall agenda is not socialist. You can't just blanket statement the whole administration in this way because of a few good, but out of context scenarios.

Well, I have to agree with that. That doesn’t change the socialist FDR agenda he’s pushing though.

So did Clinton and GWB. Subsidies to big oil and farming are a form of socialism. So is public education.

There are good socialist policies. I haven't seen one in a really long time, but they do exist.

Obama is just one head of a snake that has thousands more. Romney is another head of the very same snake. So is Bush and Clinton.

Most people want the same things.....to be able to raise a family and live in peace.

Progressive control will not allow this simple thing to happen. It will only lead to ruin. History is on my side on this subject just look back it will show you the future.

This post I have quoted is either a studied use of propaganda's most powerful tactics, OR it contains the words of what can be best described as a human parrot, who can only recite the words of its captor. Slavey want a cracker?

All that glitters is not gold, especially when what glitters is the bars of the cage they keep you in. If you ever want to be free, the time to awaken is freaking NOW.
