History actually says otherwise. The Battle of Athens in 1946 is a good example of tyranical government being overthrown in America. It was applauded by Eleanor Rosevelt. There is a good book about it.

jpfo.org...

On August 1-2, 1946, some Americans, brutalized by their county government, used armed force as a last resort to overturn it. These Americans wanted honest open elections. For years they had asked for state or federal election monitors to prevent vote fraud (forged ballots, secret ballot counts and intimidation by armed sheriff's deputies) by the local political boss. They got no help.

These Americans' absolute refusal to knuckle under had been hardened by service in World War II. Having fought to free other countries from murderous regimes, they rejected vicious abuse by their county government.

These Americans had a choice. Their state's Constitution -- Article 1, Section 26 -- recorded their right to keep and bear arms for the common defense. Few "gun control" laws had been enacted.

These Americans were residents of McMinn County, which is located between Chattanooga and Knoxville in Eastern Tennessee. The two main towns were Athens and Etowah. McMinn County residents had long been independent political thinkers. For a long time they also had: accepted bribe-taking by politicians and/or the sheriff to overlook illicit whiskey-making and gambling; financed the sheriff's department from fines-usually for speeding or public drunkenness which promoted false arrests; and put up with voting fraud by both Democrats and Republicans.

The newest info didn't mention that an 'assault' rifle had to be manufactured before 1994. Is that true?

Much of this states no more sales in NY state.

As the law stands now, assault weapons made before 1994 ARE NOT exempt from the ban.

In the old law, they were exempt, but not the new one.

Even if they are registered, they are still illegal to own after a specified date.

So, if you have registered them already, then NY knows that you own a banned weapon, and it is up to you to show that you have cleared yourself of it some how.

Q: I have an assault weapon. Do I have to give it up?
A: No. If you have an assault weapon, you can register it with the State Police. You have until April 15, 2014 to register your weapon. A form will be made available on this website no later than April 15, 2013. Under state and federal law, some people are not allowed to possess a weapon, such as convicted felons, individuals who have been involuntarily committed, or individuals currently under an order of protection. These people will not be able to register. There is no fee for registering.

How is this banned?

But after watching the video, I changed my mind.

I think what he's trying to say is not that every gun owner is crazy....but rather there are quite a few crazies who own guns.

Whether you agree with a mild form of gun control(and yes, everything proposed so far is rather mild, even if I'm opposed to it) or not, he's probably right about what he said.
edit on 18-1-2013 by Ghost375 because: (no reason given)

I would say it is moderate gun control. Not mild! Mild would be banning all automatic weapons, armor piercing rounds and short barralled shotguns and any other military grade asset. Banning sport rifles under the guise of "assault weapon" category is patently illogical and deceptive. Banning 7 round clips/magazines is quite severe and uncalled for.

But that is what happens in libtard strongholds! They distort and exaggerate. Not every liberal is a libtard, just the ones who do not realise there are higher powers organising and orchestrating the massacres and subsequent watering down of the second amendment. People killed under suspicious circumstances and their deaths politicised to achieve an agenda. It truely is disgusting and evil!

And I am not giving mainstream conservatives any credit. I despise them!!

Is it that since they cannot be sold in NY, is here is also a clause that a person cannot bring one into the state?

In order words, if a person doesn't own one now then they cannot ever own one?

Hmmm conflicting info

Section 37 of the bill amends Penal Law 265.00(22) in order to
strengthen New York's assault weapon ban, expanding its reach and
making it easier to enforce. The proposed amendments replace the
existing ban consisting of and a "two-feature" test adopted from the
now-expired federal assault weapons ban with a clearer "one-feature"
test. The "two-feature" test bans any gun that is semi-automatic, has
a detachable magazine (in the case of pistols and rifles), and
possesses two features that are commonly associated with military
weapons. The "one-feature" test would ban semi-automatic guns with
detachable magazines that possess one feature commonly associated with
military weapons. This section also adds to the list of "features"
that characterize a banned weapon.

Within one year of the effective date, all weapons defined as assault
weapons under the new "one-feature" test, as well as weapons
grandfathered in under the original assault weapons ban
, must be
registered. Current owners of these banned weapons may transfer the
weapons only to a firearms dealer or transfer to an out of state
buyer. All registered owners will be subject to a review of
disqualifiers by the State Police.

Where I live I am considered a pretty liberal dude however I weigh each election on it merits and try to pick the lesser of two evils but I swear if the Gun Gestapo keeps pushing their retarded agenda I am going to register republican be damned evil or not.

Maybe this is why he was chuckling just before he mentioned Waco:
www.apfn.org...
(Please read the entire page before commenting. Thank you.)
Excerpt from half way down the page:

In the movie, Clive Doyle, one of the surviving Davidians, asks a
good question: "If they thought that we were all brainwashed and
such a bunch of crazies, why would the FBI push David and the rest
of us to the limit?" The movie and the book document the FBI's many
gratuitous acts of provocation: shining bright lights and blaring
obnoxious sounds (including Nancy Sinatra singing "These Boots Are
Made for Walking") to prevent the Davidians from sleeping,
destroying cars and children's go-carts, mooning the women and
giving them the finger, deliberately and repeatedly running over a
Davidian's grave with a tank. Despite this harassment, note Kopel
and Blackman, the FBI negotiators tried to reassure the Davidians
that the government wanted a peaceful resolution, saying, "nobody's
going to run tanks through buildings that contain people" and "the
last thing that's going to happen is for the government to take any
kind of offensive action....You know, we don't hurt babies. You
know, we don't hurt women. We don't do those types of things."

Still reading and wanted to add this excerpt:

If the federal government exercised only those powers actually
granted by the Constitution, as the Framers intended, such matters
would be left to state and local authorities. And even if the
Davidians were suspected of violating a state gun law, it's hard to
imagine someone like Sheriff Harwell staging a massive raid to
obtain evidence of this victimless crime. If he wanted to serve a
warrant, he probably would have just knocked on the door. Since the Davidians had never threatened their neighbors, he might even have let the whole thing slide. "They had different beliefs than others," he says in Waco: The Rules of Engagement, "but basically, they were good people. I was around them quite a lot. They were always nice, mannerly. They minded their own business. They were never overbearing." The federal government could have taken a lesson from the Davidians.

I'm really interested in watching these documentaries now. Plus, I really don't see anything funny about any of this and for an elected official to even suggest that this may happen again is grounds for impeachment.

in Canada the .Gov had a problem, the forms were everywhere to fill out, and many did, and did and did, with many peoples names and address of people who they did not like, (ie, people sold them out ect, ) and the ,Gov had to investigate every one and prove they did not have what was listed.
So the cost was X10 what was estimated to cost and now has been scraped.
so every one in NY should now find a good source of names and address to fill out a very tall stack of forms and give the NY .Gov a lot of things to do.

So come Jan 2014, the maximum total of these weapons in the hands of law abiding citizens is frozen. The total in the hands of criminals will probably continue to rise.

Look I can sympathize with the plight of 3rd party in elections, hell to be honest I have voted third party more times than either established left or right in lifetime but as I have gotten older I have come to realize that those are the only two parties that have a snowballs chance in hell. I know the tea party got some seats but let’s be honest the tea party is just a fringe branch of the right. They were infiltrated and co-opted at the very beginning. They were sponsored by FOX unofficially. They also represented a lot of things I couldn’t go along with. I think there has been one instance where I voted third party where they actually made it in but that was local. Now I vote for what’s possible and for what will hopefully be the best for us.

Look I still despise the establishment I read all the time on here where people usually younger people are boasting how awake their generation is. I don’t even bother trying to tell them the truth. The truth is every generation thinks they are revolutionary, awake,_______, fill in the blank and everyone older is asleep, square, idiots, _____, fill in the blank.
The only thing that has really changed is the names each generation uses to describe how they are so in tune with things and how others can’t see it. I doubt anyone who reads this of that group will pay head to what I am saying but when they get older they will see it with another generation. There is a group in every generation that tries to say voting doesn’t matter they just change the way they say it. Sheeple is the new term same message different name.

Here is term that’s timeless ”same $H!T different day”
we all go through it, its part of growing up. Anyway I have just learned that voting my conscious can sometimes carry consequences when there is so much on the line my case and point is I voted third party along with most of my age group that I knew when it was Gore vs. Bush. The gravity of that decision haunts a good deal of us that comprehend just what happened there. Keep in mind I am from Florida and my county helped decide that election. Less than a thousand votes would have changed everything.

BTW did I mention I was Army? Never mind don’t answer its rhetorical but I had plenty of time to think that over while I was in a country we shouldn’t have gone back to. The suck was that just a few years before I had finished serving my active duty tours and had enlisted in the reserves because nothing ever happens I thought
. At a certain point I just went back active it didn’t make sense being labeled p part timer when I was anything but that.

Crap I was long winded as usual, apologies. I needed to rant.

Edit to add

You added the picture later. That was the election I was talking about. I voted for third but it was a huge mistake. Cause and effect, actions and consequences, cutting off your nose to spite your face, fubar, no go there has to be another dozen phrases to describe what we did to ourselves by voting conscious and not considering the consequences.

From what I have read not even that long. Try April of this year, If you went out to purchase an ar 15 for example today in NYS and it was out of stock which most are, the dealer has until April 15 to deliver or else it isn't allowed. Pure Bull---- !!!!!....

Q: If someone paid for a gun before January 15, 2013 that is now classified as an assault weapon, but the gun hasn’t been delivered to the buyer, what do I do? A: You may still give the gun to the buyer, but it must be registered by April 15, 2014.

The only reason third parties never win, or even accumulate the necessary 5% to get national funds, is because the media mentions republicans and democrats at least 100 times for each mention of libertarian, green, socialist, constitutionalist.

Everyone is bragging about "I am a constitutional conservative" yet they go through the republican middleman and we all know middlemen need their cut. Best to go directly to the source..supplier/producer to consumer. You save a lot of time, money and aggrivation.

No worries about you man. I like your posts and agree with most of what you say, BUT people that vote big party all the time because of that defeatist attitude is what keeps us chained to our masters. Just worry about what you do and let others worry about themselves. Granted unless people wake up we will never win anything, but even if we lose it is better to go down swinging. Constitution party all the way!!

Yep..you can't fix stupid without tearing down the propaganda machine. My only hope is that msm turns against the establishment at some point OR that infinitely more folks abandon it and switch on over to alternative news. We do live in the supposed information age after all, with nearly everyone owning a computer and internet connection.

Waco style my ass!

There are hundreds of millions of semi auto assault rifles in America and ten times that amount exist as demilled parts kits which are in fact full auto machine guns etc.. The last assault rifle ban saw amassive influx as the suppliers who were affected started cutting their guns to meet ATF requirements, and sending in ten times as many to maintain the same profit margins. Most 80%+ came in country with full auto fire control components. Where there is a market you will have a supply be it black or regulated!

This Mayor does not realize just how well armed the American populous is. The American people constitute the largest armed force in the world! If I were on the gun control side of the issue I think I would tread pretty lightly!

By limiting the lawful gun owners rights you just ensure that only criminals will have access to these weapons! Bad idea in my book. Plus, try as you might there is no denying that 200 million+ died in the 20th century alone due to tyrannical government. Statistically less than 500 people per year die in the US from assault rifles.

In America our highest offices and our main stream media outlets are for sale to the highest bidder! Our government sponsors the death of hundreds if not thousands of children in Syria today. Kills children and other inocents with drones daily. Sponsored the killing of hundreds of thousands in Iraq and beyond (Some say one million+ in Iraq alone!). Kills Americans without trial or any type of due process.

White House wins fight to keep assassinations of Americans secret.
rt.com...

Nazi Germany, Stalinist Russia, Mao’s China, Pol Pot’s Cambodia, etc, all contained disarmed populations. The guns were gone, and as a result millions upon millions died!

The Patriot Acts, the FISA domestic spy bill, the bailouts of corrupt international banks, attempts at CISPA and SOPA, actions like the NDAA authorizing the treatment of U.S. citizens as “enemy combatants” without rights to due process; all paint a picture so clear only a one-celled amoeba (or your average suburban yuppie) would not see it. You and I, and everyone else for that matter, have been designated potential targets of the state.

Now is no time to surrender our arms! If there is even the slightest chance of history repeating itself here!

Gun free zones are targeted because they are defenseless, just like and unarmed populous can be targeted!

You think it is all just too farfetched? So did all of 1930's Europe.

I keep seeing folks from the UK saying how we should be disarmed, but was it not just 50 or so years ago since we had to come and save you guys from the gas chambers? Did you step up when Stalin was sending 50 million+ to the gulags? I understand that laws exist that prevent the open discussion of Nazi stuff in the UK, but I hope you are aware that what helped to turn the tide in Poland were small bands of armed resistance. Without those who stood their ground you would be speaking German today!
