The first buyback program will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 26 in the parking lot beneath Interstate 5 between Cherry and James Streets, in downtown Seattle. McGinn said they have had about $75,000 in contributions from local companies to help pay for the guns. Participating companies include: Amazon, the Seattle Police Foundation, PEMCO, 5 Point Café and Big Mario’s Pizza and SEOMoz.
People will receive a $100 gift card in exchange for handguns, shotguns and rifles. A gift card for up to $200 will be given for assault weapons, according to a City of Seattle news release.
Anyone with information about any crime in Newark is urged to call the Department’s 24-hour “Crime Stoppers” anonymous tip line at 877 NWK-TIPS (877 695-8477) or 877 NWK-GUNS (877 695-4867). Tips leading to arrests and indictments could result in cash rewards of up to $2,000 to the person who provides the information or $1,000 per gun for calls into the gun hot line.
Some of the best sources of information are criminals giving up other criminals because they know who are carrying guns.
