Shooting reported at Newtown elementary school

This is happening now, one town away from me in Connecticut.

Newtown school officials say state police are responding to a reported shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, according to a news report.

The shooting occurred shortly before 10 a.m., the Hartford Courant reported.

All schools in town are locked down.

The Newtown Bee is reporting the shooting occurred at the school and one child was carried out by a police officer and apparently was wounded.

Superintendent of Schools Janet Robinson said it is best if parents do not try to call the school at this time. The school district will release a message once further information is known.

Afternoon kindergarten has been cancelled for the day.
