Maybe the semantics of secession could use some clarification.

Are you really wanting to secede from the United STATES of America, or is it rather that you wish to sever ties with the District of Columbia ~ which is not a State at all, but a corporation?

I have no particular stand on the issue, but people have built up a head of steam and without a serious attempt to clarify the causes, goals and methods it won’t end well. Hopefully the following thoughts won’t further muddy the waters, but please feel free to criticize or to add your two cents.

Presidents and representatives sent to the District of Columbia by the States have received the consent of people who vote to maintain the federal corporate model of government, nothing more. True representation of your will and wishes is not guaranteed and is seldom even a consideration in the passage of law. Your choice of representative is also not guaranteed in any multiple party system, it’s the luck of the draw and your approval is not a factor.

But again, if you voted, you have given your consent to be governed according to the status quo and what more could they want or need?

State governments are corporate subsidiaries of the District of Columbia. Federal financial support maintains them and holds them to federal policies, laws and methods of governance (in the republican form, in the image of the federal model).

As you probably know by now, Rick Perry has already stated that there will be NO Texas secession. What he didn’t say is that secession wouldn’t happen if 100 percent of Texans demanded it. State officials, including governors, are middle managers of the mother corporation in DC. and their job is to maintain the federal corporate model of government within their states and to supervise county and local governments as lesser municipal corporations. They either take this job seriously and perform it well, or they will not advance into the real game.

Municipal corporations (whether federal or local) don’t produce a product and can change the terms of service at the stroke of a pen ~ including the cancellation or re-direction of already approved and paid for services. They are also the only type of corporation that can demand to be paid, in advance, by those they hold jurisdiction over for services that may or may not be provided. Normally, when one works for a corporation, the employee is paid for his labor, not the other way around, and if either party is dissatisfied with the terms of employment, the employee resigns or is fired and the relationship is permanently severed.

Perhaps I’m missing a vital piece of information here, but if a normal corporation tried to coerce its employees to sign agreements that they will continue providing free labor for life, it would be considered extortion. As well as slavery. How is the federal corporation different?

So back to secession. It would seem that Texans have no particular beef with Oklahomans and Coloradans are a-okay with Nebraskans, etc. etc.. The states are simply contiguous parts of a geographic body of land separated only by arbitrary boundaries that no one would even notice if not for signs along the interstates. Would this not make the people of the 50 States natural allies with a mutual problem? So what’s the deal with all of these independent-as-a-hog-on-ice declarations of “I’m getting out of here and to hell with everyone else” nonsense?

Same as ever, divided you will fall.

From a Libertarian point of view, IMO. You dont ask permission from the government to secede. You just do it.

If it was that easy there wouldn't be any petitions floating around the WH website.
