Stuxnet goes out of control: Chevron infected by anti-Iranian virus, others could be next

America’s cyberwar is already seeing collateral damage, and it’s hitting the country’s own billion-dollar companies. Oil giants Chevron say the Stuxnet computer virus made by the US to target Iran infected their systems as well.

California-based Chevron, a Fortune 500 company that’s among the biggest corporations in the world, admits this week that they discovered the Stuxnet worm on their systems back in 2010. Up until now, Chevron managed to make their finding a well-kept secret, and their disclosure published by the Wall Street Journal on Thursday marks the first time a US company has come clean about being infected by the virus

Stuxnet worm was created by the United States with the assistance of Israel to set back Iran’s nuclear enrichment program . Rather than solely stealing intelligence through use of computer coding, the endeavor was believed to be the first cyberattack that intended to cause actual hard damage. Coupled with another malicious program named Flame , Stuxnet was waged against Iran as part of an initiative given the code name - Olympic Games.The worm was at first identified by the security company VirusBlokAda in mid-June 2010. A study of the spread of Stuxnet by Symantec showed that the main affected countries in the early days of the infection were Iran, Indonesia and India .

It has to been seen how US will stop the spread of this worm . When it reaches the wrong hand, The hunter may get Haunted .

Just imagine the kind of damage that could be done with this worm if it gets into the wrong hands. Some hacker changing a couple opcodes here and there, re-encrypt.... Profit?

Thats a scary scenario . This worm looks dangerous as it does Physical damage . Russian , Chinese , Iranian Hackers will love to modify the code and use it in their benefit .

Well freakin DUH!............What did we expect would happen?
the possibility for blowback from Suxtnet opens an endless vista of other new scams, hacks, and viruses, which could be very destructive to physical infrastructures.
Id laugh like hell if this was how the whole shebang got shut down......the US and Isreal get sued for their entire defense budgets and they cant raise an army anymore....
The end of civilistaion could be right around the next cyber corner...
