This article is basically the AP story. I didn't find any actual new organization investigate the event. Given the hour and distance from Vegas, that is probably to be expected. There is no press release from Nellis or Creech.

Incidentally, stopping your vehicle on "their" side of the highway by the base will get the attention of security. The same goes for Nellis. Being on the other side of the highway doesn't seem to be an issue.

I don't know if the deal is complete, but Nellis is buying all the civilian property on "their" side of the highway in front of the base.

CREATED Oct. 29, 2012

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- U.S. Highway 95 was closed in both directions this morning near Creech Air Force Base in Indian Springs.

According to a statement from Creech Air Force Base, military law enforcement responded to suspicious vehicles near the base's main gate at about 3:45 a.m. this morning.

Military dogs trained to detect explosives alerted during a routine check of the vehicles. Local and state law enforcement responded to the scene since the vehicles were outside the base's perimeter. As a precaution, Nevada Highway Patrol shut down the interstate in both directions from State Route 156 to State Route 160.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's bomb squad was called in to investigate. However, no explosives were found. Two individuals were briefly detained during the search but have now been released. Action News will update this story if more information becomes available.
