Danish Mohammad cartoonist rejects censorship

The Danish cartoonist, who was nearly killed by an axe wielding assassin in 2010 after Muslims world-wide rioted in response to being insulted by his cartoon of Muhammad has stated that the West cannot let itself be muzzled by fear of offending Islamic sensibilities.

Kurt Westergaard, told Austrian magazine News he had no regrets about his work and said freedom of speech was too precious to relinquish

"Should we in future let ourselves be censored by Islamic authorities in deeply undemocratic countries?

Should they be allowed to tell the German chancellor in future whom she should honor and whom not? Are we really this far along?" he asked, referring to Angela Merkel's citation of his work.

Westergaard, 77, lives in constant fear of an attempt on his life. His home has become a "fortress" with a police station in the back yard and bodyguards who ferry him and his wife around in the back seat of an armored car.

He further states that

"we have long found ourselves in a culture war" raging not just between the West and the Middle East but directly in Western societies where he said many Muslims seem not to understand or respect democracy and freedom of speech.

Kurt Westergaard is a very brave man.

It is worth bearing in mind that according to the first biography on Muhammad written by the devout Muslim Ibn Ishaq in 768AD that Muhammad ordered the assassination of people who criticized Islam.

• One poet who had mocked Muhammad was a mother sleeping with her young children. The Muslim assassin had to move the child aside to thrust his dagger into her chest. Another victim was a male poet who was, according to Muslim sources, over 100 years old. Mohammed absolved the Islamic murderers of any wrong doing.

• Muhammad executed prisoners who had been political opponents in the past. One man had offended Muhammad in his early days due to being a better story teller than Muhammad.

Moments before he was executed, he cried "Who will look after my young daughter?". Muhammad cursed him.
