Pregnant Base jumper killed on last jump before she retired

Horrified boyfriend who jumped alongside her could only watch after her parachute failed to open

A pregnant Base jumper has died in what she had pledged would be her final leap before retiring.

Wioletta Roslan, of Sweden, had said she would give up the high-risk sport after falling pregnant, but decided to make one last jump near Stechelberg, Switzerland, which ended in tragedy.

The 37-year-old adrenaline junkie was four months pregnant when she died after her parachute failed to open during a Base (Buildings, Antennas, Spans and Earth) jump last weekend.

Her boyfriend Aleksander Domalewski jumped alongside her and could do nothing but watch as she realised her parachute wouldn’t open and spread her arms awaiting the impact of the 990ft drop.

When she found out she was pregnant, she should have stopped base jumping. Its a great pity that her unborn child paid the price for her 'one last jump'.

That's awful. I can't even imagine how terrible her boyfriend, family and friends must feel. I agree, I can't imagine doing something like base jumping after you've found out that you're with child but to be honest I can't imagine doing something like base jumping at all.

Wow. I'm horrified at this. I could never imagine my wife doing something like this when she was pregnant. I am Of the same sentiment as you all. That child's life comes first. Truly tragic.

She could have just as easily been hit by a car crossing the street.
But my heart goes out to her boyfriend.

I don't understand why you would take that risk being pregnant ..Any way you put it the whole thing is a tragedy but this is what happens when a person makes irresponsible decisions this whole incident could have been avoided..peace,sugarcookie1

You're right and she obviously loved base jumping and other extreme sports but base jumping is easily avoided, cars in this day and age are (for the most part) not. Any of us could die at any minute but when you are pregnant you shouldn't be upping your odds. Just my opinion and I don't mean to sound like a judgmental jerk but I can't think of any nicer way to put it.

Pretty sure throwing yourself at the ground and hoping not to miss is a little different that crossing a street.

Bad decision on all parts involved I think. Stupid and irresponsible.

I like Pate, but I wouldn't eat it if I was pregnant.
Being the huge risk taker I am, I think the most dangerous thing I've ever attempted while pregnant was wearing high heels to a wedding.

Living by a motto like "if you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space", I guess she lived a full life. That's a good thing, right?

Isn´t that taking it a little too far?

I mean, what if the woman was 4 weeks pregnant? Or 4 days? 4 hours....? What if the man and woman were having sex right before jumping off that cliff and in the process of falling......you get what I mean..

It was her choice.....life fast, die young and all that stuff...fine.

4 month old baby´s really aren´t that preoccupied with making choices, believe me. They can`t....

Right and she handled accordingly best fitting her way of life, what you gonna do?

Restrict pregnant women from taking certain risks in life?

Planes can crash! Granted, the risk of dying in an planecrash are way smaller then jumping of a cliff with a parachute on your back but what about a ballonflight? are they riskier than an airplane ride? How about driving a car?

Again, when does this break down into a whole bunch of nonsense. It´s a free world, deal with it

It is very sad what this women chose to do. Base jumping while pregnant is clearly way too risky. She was growing a human child inside of her body; not the time to go base jumping.

We all make choices every day of our lives. If she chose to risk losing her child, that is certainly her decision to make. Personally, I don't think risking your life and that of your unborn child is worth a jump through the sky for thrills.

I agree.

But some people are.....well....different.

I did a thread once titled "a beautiful suicide". It was about a young couple who had just lost their only child. They took their child, drove to some cliff, hugged each other with their child in between them and dove into the deep....

Live can be tragic, life can be beautiful. But I would never have tried to stop those people from doing what they did. And neither would I have tried to stop this woman.....freedom of choice.
