State Department, asleep at the wheel?

I just found out the US State Department actually had a group of 100 American business executives touring Cairo for potential business opportunities when the riots started. According to the State Department's own web site it actually happened..........

"Deputy Secretary Nides and Deputy National Security Advisor Michael Froman will lead the U.S. government delegation which includes Senior Advisor to the Secretary John Podesta, and representatives from the Department of Commerce, the United States Trade and Development Agency, and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation."
Among the participants was the CEO of Apache Corporation, take a wild guess what he was there for........

The obvious question of course, is how can the State Department be completely unaware of the growing unrest in a city it was trying to promote as safe for business? Was the level of greed so deep that they were blind to, or simply ignoring the powder keg they were standing on?
From where I'm standing it looks like OIL was once again right in the middle of it all.

It appears to be a pattern in the Middle East and now Africa, doesn't it? Whether we go in by force, under the guise of "spreading democracy", or whether by stealth via destabilization, insurrections, and coups, the end result is to take over a region, topple the existing governmental apparatus, and place a puppet government which is friendly to multinational corporations.

In other words, a country is destroyed, and the vultures come in and help themselves.

The State Department wasn't asleep at the wheel, they were simply doing what they always do.

Whether the native populace is being goaded into fighting back is another kettle of fish.

I think your right, it was about oil, they probably knew and just didn't care because of the money and oil involved. This is from their website:
