'Godfather' Of Welfare Reform Act Debunks Clinton

It looks like Bill Clinton continued the efforts to mask Obama's "no work" welfare reform.

Somebody who knows better has exposed the truth !!

Robert Rector, who played a major role in crafting the 1996 Welfare Reform Act which Bill Clinton signed after having vetoed it twice, debunked Clinton’s claim Wednesday night that Obama actually changed the welfare law to require more work.

This is the second major instance -- the first was when liberal and mainstream media fact-checkers failed to call out the Obama administration for having asserted they had not made any changes to the welfare law when they did -- when a liberal has told a falsehood about welfare and received a complete pass.

Rector wrote the Obama administration “will put in mothballs the formal purpose of welfare reform—to reduce the number of people dependent on government benefits” and will “abandon the legislative performance goal that encourages states to reduce welfare caseloads.”.................

Last night, former President Bill Clinton claimed that President Obama had not gutted welfare reform. Clinton proclaimed that Obama would actually strengthen welfare reform by urging states to increase the number of people moving “from welfare to work” by 20 percent.

What is Obama really doing? In July, the Obama Administration illegally declared that it would waive all the work requirements in the 1996 welfare reform law. State welfare bureaucracies will no longer be obligated to obey the federal work requirements written in that law.

This is an instance where technically you are correct, but it's not a bad thing. As I understand it, the power was transferred to the States to determine requirements. I can support this SO LONG AS the federal government does not bail out States that run into trouble after relaxing them too much.
