Govt won't bring charges on CIA interrogations

www.unpartial.com

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department has closed an inquiry into CIA interrogations of terrorist detainees without bringing criminal charges.

Thursday's decision, in the probes of the deaths of two terrorist suspects, marks the end a wide-ranging criminal investigation by federal prosecutor John Durham into interrogation practices during the presidency of George W. Bush.

In the past three years, Durham has looked into the treatment of 101 detainees in U.S. custody since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Holder has decided to drop the investigation into the interrogations during GWB's administration.Typical cowardice from the DOJ it's an election year and they want this to go away.Perhaps, they are hoping if they let this go then the republicans will lay off of the Fast and Furious investigation.Let's see how this plays out.

Are you sure about the source?

Sounds like a CIA front or something.

No charges for deaths of terrorism suspects: Justice Department

By Mark Hosenball | Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - An investigation launched in 2008 into the CIA's program of detaining and interrogating captured militants was closed on Thursday with no criminal charges, the Justice Department said.

The interrogators used techniques like "waterboarding," or simulated drowning, which President Barack Obama and human rights advocates say is torture.

In a statement announcing the closing of the last two cases in the lengthy investigation, Attorney General Eric Holder said it "was limited to a determination of whether prosecutable offenses were committed and was not intended to, and does not resolve, broader questions regarding the propriety of the examined conduct."

Current and former CIA officials welcomed the decision. They have maintained that the program, begun after the September 11 al Qaeda attacks on New York and Washington, was conducted under guidelines issued by lawyers of the administration of former President George W. Bush.

CIA Director David Petraeus sent a message to agency employees announcing the closing of the case and thanking them for cooperating with the investigation.

Human rights activists criticized the Justice Department decision.

Hmm.. do you think we treat POW's any different under Obama? No.. we don't. So by clearing the CIA of charges against POW's, it eliminates the risks of prosecution under the next President against operatives under Obama. Classic maneuvering.

only reason why they wont charge is because every country does this type of stuff. this torture which is inhumane. But every country does it to spies not just terrorists. So, it's not just the CIA doing this type of stuff..

Doesn't suprise me at all. Why would they? If they levy charges for torture then they'd open the flood gates... Extraordinary rendition, indefinite detention, regime changes. And we all know those practices are necessary to keep americans free.
