Due to bannings of interrogation methods in the United States, it is learned that the CIA is holding top al-Qaeda suspects in a secret jail in Jordan. At least 11 men are being held in the jail, including Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, who is believed to have been the mastermind of the attacks of September 11, 2001 in Washington and New York.

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - The U.S. Central Intelligence Agency is holding top al Qaeda suspects in a secret Jordanian jail where they are subjected to interrogation methods banned in the United States, an Israeli newspaper said Wednesday.

Haaretz daily said at least 11 men held incommunicado in Jordan include Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of the hijacked airliner attacks on New York and Washington, and Hambali, accused of being al Qaeda's ally in southeast Asia.

Haaretz daily, an Israeli Newspaper, claims that they are trying to prevent leaks, and because of certain bans on US interrogation methods, they must interrogate the suspects out of the country. Human rights groups are claiming that the US is moving suspects to states where they are more lenient on their interrogatio laws, while US officials claim they are operating within US law.

Washington Times correspondent Rowan Scarborough states that the threatening of suspects to move them to Jordan if they don't cooperate is known. Using physical means to get detainees to confess and give information is known in Jordan and other Middle Eastern countries.

Using physical means to get detainees to confess and give information

Please, spare us the euphemisms. Call it what it is: TORTURE. Just because it's the U.S. that's doing it doesn't make it any less TORTURE. Just another example of how the Bush administration believe they are above the law both here and abroad, which leads to more lawlessness against us.

Ah, so thats why things have been quite for the jordanians. They have at least given money to families of suicide bombers, but apparently they are cooperating on this matter. For what its worth (and I don't personally think it makes much of difference; its still wrong) I think that they are saying they are letting the Jordanians doing the interogations, no?
