From the highs of Curiosity's successful landing on Mars, to the crash of the Morpheus lander today....

People seem to forget just how difficult it is to design new things for future space exploration when they see a huge success, but the crash of Morpheus today just reminds us why successful space missions are not based on the most technologically advanced stuff.
In case you don't follow space news, here is a bit more about Morpheus:

Morpheus is a vertical test bed demonstrating new green propellant propulsion systems and autonomous landing and hazard detection technology. Designed, developed, manufactured and operated in-house by engineers at NASA's Johnson Space Center, the Morpheus Project represents not only a vehicle to advance technologies, but also an opportunity to try out "lean development" engineering practices

Damn, all that hard work for it to simply blow up your face. I bet those engineers were crying.
