www.bbc.co.uk

The NYSE identified 140 stocks with higher-than-normal trading volumes, including popular stocks like Citigroup and American Airlines.

But they cancelled trades on only six stocks.

The moves brought back memories of the "flash crash" of 2010, when the Dow Jones index fell 10% in just minutes.

This could represent something happening on the horizon that insiders know about, or it could simply be a computer algorithm that has gone haywire (see the additional news article about that occurring in 2010).

Even if it was a computer algorithm deciding to make massive trades, does that mean that the computer had detected patterns in the stocks predicting a major event?

To look into this, we can check out the May 6, 2010 incident. A good place to check out what was going on in May, 2010 is Wikipedia's page on the month (also in the links below).

Although there is a lot going on at the time, including a monetary crisis in Greece, the BP Oil Spill and the Eyjafjallajökull eruption in Iceland, nothing really unexpected happened after the previous episode.

Today and tomorrow are very important days to traders, today was the FOMC statement from the fed, this only happens 8 times a year and tomorrow is the Euro and British rate release, these are very important announcements which will make the markets crazy, I'm staying on the sidelines until the dust settles tomorrow and see where the world economy is heading.

No it's not some conspiracy, just important announcements, just watch the markets tomorrow there will be a lot of volatility, but eventually they will pick a direction.
