Confirmed: US and Israel created Stuxnet, lost control of it

arstechnica.com

In 2011, the US government rolled out its "International Strategy for Cyberspace," which reminded us that "interconnected networks link nations more closely, so an attack on one nation’s networks may have impact far beyond its borders." An in-depth report today from the New York Times confirms the truth of that statement as it finally lays bare the history and development of the Stuxnet virus—and how it accidentally escaped from the Iranian nuclear facility that was its target.

Ok, there are many threads regarding this virus attack on Iran, so please review the additional ATS threads within this post!

Also, check out this other news article:

Obama Order Sped Up Wave of Cyberattacks Against Iran
WASHINGTON — From his first months in office, President Obama secretly ordered increasingly sophisticated attacks on the computer systems that run Iran’s main nuclear enrichment facilities, significantly expanding America’s first sustained use of cyberweapons, according to participants in the program. Mr. Obama decided to accelerate the attacks — begun in the Bush administration and code-named Olympic Games — even after an element of the program accidentally became public in the summer of 2010 because of a programming error that allowed it to escape Iran’s Natanz plant and sent it around the world on the Internet. Computer security experts who began studying the worm, which had been developed by the United States and Israel, gave it a name: Stuxnet

Ok. So It is CONFIRMED that this was ajoint US/Israel attack on Iran. Is it a way of softening up Iran's defensive and offensive capabilities?! As mentioned in other threads, a digital war is better than an actual war, however, is this the pre-cursor to an invasion?
I see it as kind of like the allies 'bombing' the beaches and such before the d-day invasion... They soften up the defenses so that it makes it easier to invade with less losses than normal. OR maybe this is as far as the attack will go? If the virus does disable their 'nuclear' program, then maybe the physical attack on Iran isn;t needed?!

Please make sure you add any other threads that you feel are relevant as there is a ton of info out there split between too many threads. It would be nice to have it all in a concise thread so we can all access the relevant information

Thoughts?!

Here is another article:

US unleashed Stuxnet cyber war on Iran to appease Israel – report
The US and Israel made the Stuxnet virus as a new kind of weapon targeted against Iran, a media investigation revealed. The operation reportedly started in the Bush era, but was intensified by Obama administration.
The top-secret massive sabotage targeting Iran’s Natanz uranium enrichment facility was arguably the first episode of a new age of warfare, similar to the first use of nuclear weapons or the first military drone attack, according to an investigation by the New York Times.

With so many details in the public domain about Stuxnet's development, testing, inner-workings and release into the wild, I assumed these relationships were confirmed quite some time ago. For example, the fact that our old buddy Moammar provided the centrifuges used in the Israeli mock-up test beds has been public knowledge for over a year, afaik. Duqu has similar origins but seems to have attracted less public attention.

Hmmm, so, if they did lose control of it where else did it spread? There have been rumors since the Fukishima (sp) meltdown last year the virus has spread outside of Iran.

I used to know a really fat hacker (matt you there lol)

HE worked for the military. He basically was part of what is a first response in any theatre. If they are engaged in cyber warfare, then the real thing will come shortly.

My friend matt basically said they mess up the country and then when they are still trying to figure out what is wrong, we send in the bombers and the marines after.

I believe him.

So we should expect a real war soon enough. courtesy of our Cave men leaders.

These governments are IDIOTS!!!

Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean that one SHOULD do it!
We can manufacture plagues - but should we? We can control the weather - but should we? We can modify DNA - but should we? We can intiatiate nuclear fission/fusion - but should we?

There are unforeseen and certainly unintended consequences that result from wielding such power and technology. For a recent example, simply look at what the "Green" energy industry has given us in the wake of Fukishima. These power-mongers in government suffer from something psychologists call the "Personal Fallacy" - the notion that bad things happen to other people or not at all, but never to them. As a result, they see the Pollyanish potential that this power gives them, without ever contemplating the long-term destruction it could cause. As a result, mankind as a whole suffers.

I am living in a world that I understand less each and every day.

They didn't lose control of it! They command that ship ever onwards! Fukushima was a Stuxnet event too, and Israel did a security upgrade on the plant for the Japanese.
