Poverty advocates begin 2012 push

Some political activists are pressing the social issue of poverty.

Many are putting the squeeze on Obama to do more for Americans who are at or below the poverty level.

Obama might need to be extra careful, as many voters are "seeing red" with all the extra benefits being paid out by the government.

President Barack Obama has been focusing his reelection campaign on appealing to the middle class — but many allies on the left, including civil rights activists and religious leaders, say it’s the poor that need more of his attention.

As the weak economic recovery grinds on, statistics show roughly 15 percent of all Americans have slipped into poverty. With these numbers in mind, a coalition of advocates are leading an effort that includes calls for direct federal aid as well as an any-means-necessary defense of government programs sure to face the budget ax in the fall. They say they won’t be deterred even if pushing Obama to take a more involved stand could force him into positions that could hurt him politically as he heads into November.

Leading the anti-poverty charge for progressives is TV host and Obama antagonist Tavis Smiley, who led a similar effort last summer and wrote a book, “The Rich and the Rest of Us,” with co-author Cornel West, a Princeton professor and social activist. With the election looming, Smiley said, he intends to press the president — as well as Mitt Romney — with a simple question: What will you do to help the 46 million people living in poverty?

Unemployment extensions, food stamps, general welfare, Medicaid, etc.

Many voters are victims of the meltdown from 2008.

Many voters are people who Had average jobs with average incomes a few short years ago.

Many voters are now living on assistance that is peanuts compared to the incomes they had in recent times.
(mostly at no fault of their own !)

Many voters who are recently "poverty strickened" want their normal lives back..... and right now, not 10 or 20 years from now !!

Obama is not getting those votes imo.

He will only get votes from the chronic assistance users, and maybe even a few of those people will turn against him.

Obama & Congress are spending money at a record breaking pace.

Who is getting all those Trillions anyway ??

It ain't the recently "impoverished" that's for sure !!

What exactly IS Obama's "Plan" anyway ??

Government loves the poor, that's why they keep making so many.

Bammy's plan is to continue record levels of deficit spending in order to fully bankrupt our nation. I believe that the "final goal" is to eliminate the dollar and possibly all physical "cash" moving us to a cashless society. What comes then is open to debate.

planning a thread to divide again i see,
why blame left or right,
why not see wall street and speculation that makes the false choice one or the other,

what i mean is in an equatable society there is no need to redistribute wealth.
that means we all get the FIRST use of money not just banks.

credit unions that work for the people instead of profits for investors
very simple
take the expansion of credit markets from the banks and give it to the people
END THE FED

if the entire economy is based off debt and credit expansion,
what happens when this debt/credit expansion is halted?

a ponzie scheme of debt relies on more debt to continue,
if you stop increasing debt for even a minute,
a MAJOR crash happens.

so austerity is simply used to crash the debt based economy by not inflating the debt burden.
\
end the fed and print VALUE money that can be increased with actual goods and services
instead of debt based money that incoures interest to use

simple
