Double standards in Egypt

An Egyptian court sentenced 12 Christians to life in prison and acquitted eight Muslims on Monday in a case set off by religious tensions in the country's south.

Christians, who make up about 10 percent of Egypt's estimated 80 million people, complain that the courts and police often turn a blind eye to discrimination or violence against them. Some fear the surge of ultraconservative Islamists to power after Hosni Mubarak's overthrow last year could further curtail their rights.

All story in the article , is this the fruits of Arab spring i ask myself? Christians in Egypt are discriminated on daily bases after the elections and now the courts are joining the muslim brotherhood in that discrimination. Bad times are coming for Egypt.

The Egyptian Muslim brotherhood have recently thrown off their pretence that they are anything but Islamic hardliners.

In the year since its revolution, Egypt’s Islamist politicians have presented themselves as moderates who can be friends with the West and tolerate non-Muslims at home.

But before the country’s first free presidential election on Wednesday, the two main Islamist candidates have moved to the right, attacking western decadence, threatening the country’s alcohol industry and demanding closer implementation of Sharia law.

The Muslim Brotherhood candidate, Mohammed Morsi, an American-educated professor of engineering, this weekend called for the release of Omar Abdulrahman, the Egyptian so-called “blind Sheikh” jailed for life in America for incitement to terrorism.

As the Muslim Brotherhood have gained in strength, they have become much more openly Islamic fundamentalist. They are demanding the release of a convicted terrorist, attacking the decadence of the West, intend to ban alcohol and plan to implement Sharia law.

At a rally in the Nile Delta Mr Aboul Fotouh devoted much of his speech to conservative views of the role of women.

Western countries had “neglected” family life, he said. “They have opened up society to commit all sins – sex, drink, everything,” he said.

“We are all soldiers in the project of Islam,” he went on to say.

Mr Aboul Fotouh’s shift began about the time he won the endorsement of the ultraconservative Salafi movement, which took more than 20 per cent of the vote in December’s parliamentary elections

Essentially, the Salafi and Wahhabi want everyone to live their life in the manner that the prophet Muhammad did. Whether they want to or not.

When the Muslim Brotherhood assassinated Sadat in 1981, they created the oppourtunity for Mubarak to rise to power.

This is just, in their mind, a justification and a backlash for the 32 years that they were held back.

Just my humble opinion/interpretation though.

As far as those candidates go I see, hear and read rhetoric being spewed by many people around the globe. Some extreme, some idiotic. I say let the people decide for themselves.

But, Stay aware of the situation and possible implications while keeping an eye on those involved.

The Muslim Brotherhood didn't assassinate Anwar Sadat. I think you are confusing them with the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, a completely unrelated group. The EIJ is mixed up with Al-Qaeda and makes no pretense at all about wanting to join the government. They want to destroy it.

Surely the Islamic Jihad that killed Sadat has no relation to Al-Qaeda.

Al-Qaeda was an American instrument in its proxy war with the Soviet Union while Islamic Jihad was principally dealing with the Zionist problem and Israel.

I understand why zionists wish to merge the Al-Qaeda of today with Islamic Jihad because they seek to take advantage on the "War on Terror" to wrap up the mess they have harvested with their occupation and suppression of Palestine.

Islamic Jihad is strictly an Israeli problem and it would over the dead bodies of American citizen if Israel pins that mess on the US.

As for the Egyptian Coptics, they are a minority and treated a Hell of a lot better than Christian Americans treat their on compatriots who happen to be Muslims.

This sort of deviancy is found in all quarters in the US from the FBI, local police forces, Gitmo, churches, in prisons, in the media and in language.

The US has entered a fascist pre-nazi phase and it is constantly being budged by Israel into entering a world war against ordinary people because of their faith.

Israel is stuck with nearly 2 billion people hostile to it so by hook and by crook it is mobilising the US into a world war.

Egypt is one of the areas were Israel is fomenting a fifth column in a country recognised by all Arabs as their leader. It was during Mubarak, a traitor and criminal, was ruling he helped the zionist sow sectarian strife.

Israel has a permanent presence in Egypt and it does all it can to rot it from inside using various psychological and terrorist techniques and part of this destabilisation includes the agitation of Coptic Egyptians.

The ex-Israeli officer and his mother in Israel claimed that he was an ordinary American student and was unfairly arrested while studying the Egyptian revolution as it was happening.

Egypt and Israel have agreed to swap an Israeli-American detained in Cairo for a group of Egyptian prisoners held in Israel, Egypt's state media said on Saturday.

The deal would see Ilan Grapel, a 27-year-old arrested on spying allegations in Cairo in June, exchanged for 25 Egyptian adults and three children.

Do you really believe all that fluff about muslim not hating christians? According to the Quran we're just as bad as jews. Actions speak louder than words. BTW here's what Sharia Law has to say about the matter.

1- Jihad defined as “to war against all non-Muslims to establish the religion” is the duty of every Muslim and Muslim head of state (Caliph). Muslim Caliphs who refuse jihad are in violation of Sharia and unfit to rule.
2- A Caliph can hold office through seizure of power meaning through force.

31- A Muslim woman must cover every inch of her body which is considered “Awrah,” a sexual organ. Some schools of Sharia allow the face and some don’t.
32- A Muslim man is forgiven if he kills his wife caught in the act of adultery. However, the opposite is not true for women since he “could be married to the woman he was caught with.”
33-It is obligatory for a Muslim to lie if the purpose is obligatory and is known as Taqiyya (Islamic Deception). That means that for the sake of abiding with Islam’s commandments, such as jihad, a Muslim is obliged to lie and should not have any feelings of guilt or shame associated with this kind of lying.
