A loyal Labrador retriever named Maggie, who was videotaped as she guarded the body of a yellow Lab hit and killed by a car in Southern California, has been reunited with her family.

Maggie’s family claimed her Monday from a Los Angeles Shelter, after she had been spayed and microchipped and dozens had offered to adopt her.

The footage released on Saturday showed the female Labrador lying next to a motionless, yellow Labrador as vehicles pass dangerously close to them.

Blood can be seen around the injured dog's head while the Labrador waits by its side

Is it any wonder that dog's are know as man's best friend with such loyalty?

What a loyal dog.

No animal is stupid. None.

People eat animals. Animals eat animals. Its just the food chain.

The story is sad and made me smile at the dogs loyalty.

"Why are you looking at me? Why are you bothering me? Can't you understand that my friend just died right in front of me? Can I please mourn and say my goodbyes in peace?"

I'm glad you guys are uplifted by the loyalty, but I am saddened by the mourning. Animals mourn. It is not easy for me to watch this clip.... who wants to see any creature mourning the death of a companion?

However, footage like this is needed to get people to realize that animals are fully sentient and conscious with mental and emotional dispositions just like our own.

Now I must hurry home... I miss my dogs

Peace.

That is just heartbreaking the poor things, they can certainly teach our species a thing or two.
I am glad that the Black Labrador was reunited with her family and I pray that the golden lab is now safely at Rainbow bridge.
