okay i work in a call centre for the mobile phone company and i have to answer the phone to fix peoples problems. Now as if that job is not annoying enough i have to put up with people whinging about their problem. Okay i get paid (quite well) for listening to it and i do lend a sympathetic ear but i am not there to be sworn or spoken down to by ANYBODY, have any of yous ever worked with people? you have to agree that people can be so f*cking rude, i mean where are peoples manners nowadays,

for example i had a guy on the phone today who had the cheek to call me a useless sh*t because HE called the wrong number. Why the hell would you speak to anybody like that, i mean yeah its frustrating to have a problem with your phone but at the end of the day its only a f*cking phone isnt it. all i am saying is that there is so many arrogant people out there who need to learn basic manners,

anybody have any similar experiences with people?

I worked for a telemarketing company. I answered the phone when people called back to complain about telemarketing and our company. It was my job to be yelled at. Any conversation of mine went something like this:

Me: [name of company], How can I help you?
Idiot: Yeah, I just wanted to let you know that you assholes called me during dinner the other night.
Me: And?
Idiot: And?! AND?! AND IT'S BULLS**T.
Me: Well, I don't think I can help you there. -Click-

I had that same exact conversation about 500 times a week. If that isn't a sweet job, I don't know what is.

Some years ago I worked for a brewery (not 'Best Pixyland Cider' unfortunately).
One of the managers had a problem with a woman who wanted to complain about something. He tried his best to explain that she needed to talk with another department head, and offered to connect her to this person. However, she continued to rant and berate this poor sod who had nothing to do with the problem and couldn't have done anything about it even if he had wanted to.

the conversation ended in this manner.

Manager : "Do you know who I am ?"
Very irate customer : "No !!!"
Manager : "Good ... f**k off then !!!"

i relate to that man, I work in a call centre for a credit card company.

Q: Why doesnt my card work.
A: Because your havent paid your account for two months sir, so we have placed a hold on your card unitll payment is recieved.
Q: Look here buddy! I make over a $1 000 000 a year, how dare you do something like this to me! I have the right mind to take my business elsewhere! You and your... (it goes on with profanities against me and the company etc etc..)...
A: Sir as long as you keep paying your account on time this problem would not arise... (which means basically; If you earn so #ing much how come you cant pay your #ing bill you cheap asshole!)

Its a bitch of a job, but i dont let things get to me, coz in the end i'm helping them and if they want my help they'll listen to me and keep a civil tongue in my head.

I remember one occasion the customer kept swearing at me (personal insults not directed at the ocmpany but me), and i kept saying:

'If you keep talking to me like that we wont get anywhere and i'll end the call...'

he kept going and going and i kept warning him... eventually i hung up on him...

The guy calls back and got me again... he was a quite civil the next time around...

I worked for an incoming call center for a long distance company. Also in billing and eventually network troubleshooting. The problem mostly is that when they call, they're angry because something's wrong. I get angry, but call to try and figure it out or work it out. If it's my fault, that's that. If it's theirs, I try to get it fixed, but save the Screaming Meemie routine for when it's gone beyond rediculous. Unfortunately there is a huge, huge portion of the population which seems to have no self-control or even inkling about how to behave towards others. They say things that I guarantee they'd never say face to face. Then they actually take pride in how they taught that jerk on the phone a thing or two!

I used to work in a call centre doing the evening shift (whilst I was a college the first time round), and reading your post brought back all the memories of why I eventually quit and got an evening job in a bar instead!

One woman rang up and before I could even asked her how I could help she exploded into a tirade of abuse. I waited until she had to catch her breath and finally got out of her what the problem was. She had brought a new hair dryer, and it wouldn't work. She explained she had plugged it in and the thing refused to work... I asked tentatively if she had actually switched the plug on ....answer....oh and she hung up!

Not only did we have the rude brigade we also had the pervert brigade to put up with! The twighlight shift certainly seemed to bring them out of the woodwork!

One of my work colleagues said that she bet they wouldn't be so rude face to face if we had a video type phone line, but I felt that that would destroy our release valve, which was making rude gestures at the phone!

The rude ones on evening and nightshift could be fun, though, because it was a little bit looser of an environment. I had only a few really memorable ones....

Angry Customer: "You're all thieves! Thieving WHORES! Your mother's a WHORE!!" (re: billing charges)

Me: "If you know my mom, then you know her rates are just as competitive as ours are."

Then there was the heavy breather/obscene caller. We found that many of them were married men calling in the middle of the night while their wives slept. I got one guy panting and carrying on and he wouldn't cut it out. Kept calling and calling. So I ran a report to get his number and waited until around 5:30 to call him back. As I suspected, his wife answered. I told her where I was calling from and that we'd gotten several calls in the night from her number with someone who seemed to be having difficulty breathing. Told her the person was just panting and huffing and we were concerned that it might have been due to an athsma attack or something. She said "Nobody here's got asthma, but somebody's gonna be in pain!" and as she hung up I could hear her already starting to yell. :
:

Then my favorite... a drunk who thought he had the number for an escort service. Offered $10,000 for me to come over. I told him that; 1) He had the wrong number, and 2) Ten grand for a piece of tail is outrageous and for that kind of money I'd think he'd get 3 or 4 girls to come over if he ever finds the right number. He argued, just STOOPID drunk, so finally I told him 4 of us would be over in about 45 minutes and to wait. And we don't take checks. I'm guessing he passed out waiting and saved himself some cash.
