I have been the victim of crime. Had my house broken into and stripped clean twice and I was injured by a stray bullet in a drive by shooting. I hold no animosity towards those people.
I am not saying all people convicted of crimes, just those under 21 or young enough to make a change. The average life span is roughly 75 years. Thats a long time to pay for stealing a car at 18 with your friends or some dumb # like that.
Its like saying you drove recklessly and crashed into a parked car and now you cant drive for the rest of your life.
Your percentages about re arrest may be correct. And thats too bad that people are so stupid they didnt learn the first time. But what about the percentage of people who did learn and dont get re arrested? Should they have to suffer for the rest of their life for a mistake made once? If you lie to me once and apologize for it and never lie again, should I never believe the words that come out of your mouth.
These people not only cant vote, get a good job or hunt with a firearm, but now have no means of self defense. Its called possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. They cannot possess a gun, knife, mace, bat or anything else that may be construed as a weapon. Look it up. Texas is the only state I believe that allows a convicted felon to keep a fire arm in their home for self defense. And that seems pretty fair to me. I just think its another way for the government to control people and weapons.
