FDA issues new warning on Lipitor, Zocor, other statins

The FDA has made a new statement about statins.

They say patients could see "small increased risk" of higher blood sugar levels and of being diagnosed with diabetes.

They plan to add warnings to labels about the diabetes risks, as well as memory loss and confusion.

The Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday raised safety concerns about the popular class of cholesterol-fighting drugs called statins, warning that patients taking the drugs may face a "small increased risk" of higher blood sugar levels and of being diagnosed with diabetes.

The federal safety agency said Tuesday it plans to add the diabetes-risk language to the "warnings and precautions" sections of labeling for the statin drugs. The drugs that will get the warning include top-selling brand names such as Lipitor, Lescol, Pravachol, Crestor, Mevacor, Altoprev, Livalo and Zocor. Under these and a range of generic names, the drugs have been taken for years by tens of millions of people to prevent heart attack, stroke and cardiovascular disease.

The largest manufacturers of statins didn't have immediate comments on the FDA's action.

Frankly, I'm surprised anyone believes *anything* from Big Pharma corporations. So many (too many) drugs have been put on the market without proper studies/research. These drugs then get promoted by mass media and the networks make huge profits from the advertising. Because of this, they dare not bite the hand(s) that feed them; the network news won't run stories against Big Pharma advertisers because they would lose millions/billions in advertisement. Doctors are compensated for prescribing these drugs to patients in many ways (and they are wined and dined at "medical conventions" in exotic locales). So, the drugs get sold to the public.

Then, years later, it comes to light that these drugs harmed more than helped, and that the Big Pharma corporations anticipated this. The corporations pay their fines and move on. Meanwhile, good people (average citizens) DIE. To them, we "average" serfs are just numbers. They make their profits, satisfy their shareholders. We take drugs and DIE.

This is why the FDA and media are against holistic, "old world," and homeopathic healing with NATURAL herbs and extracts. Because those things are cheap and readily available. They want to regulate natural food stores (to the point of having ATF-styled SWAT raids on mom-and-pop stores) so they can charge you 100 times (1000 times) more for "medicine" that will probably cause terrible side effects or outright kill you.

And, this hasn't even touched on the topic of vaccines with mercury-based preservatives or the H1N1 "craze" a couple years ago that duped us into making Big Pharma corporations billions in profits.
