hi all

after pondering this thread for a while
i thought i have to post this

At 3.10pm this afternoon (gmt)
i picked my daughter up from school (walking)
im standing by the curb with daughters hand in mine,(shes nearly 5) waiting for the lollypop lady.
She walks to the middle of the road puts her arms out as usual, and i was just about to step out wen

I know this sounds weird but for a split second everything went into slow motion (ive only had this happen several times my life)
i seen the lolly pop lady with her arms out, the people across the road stepped out,
i was just about to cross , wen a feeling told me to have a quick look to the right
luckily i did
a red car went past pretty quickly, there is no doubt it would have hit my daughter and myself (my daughter being hit first)

plenty of people seen it so il probably hear more tomorow
its bloody scary looking back at it, the lollypop lady in the middle of the road
oncoming traffic had stopped, and this stupid driver didnt see this

the reason i posted was because
i realised even though the lollypop lady was no way to blame
you still cant rely on her for other idiots mistakes on the road

so wen crossing the road even if its a green man or a lollypop lady
still take that quick look before you cross

You were very lucky. I'm glad to know you and your daughter are okay.

I'm a teacher at an elementary school. Three years ago, our traffic guard was hit and killed by a driver in front of the school. Unfortunately, several students witnessed the accident. It was, as you can imagine, absolutely horrible.

As your story shows, you can never be too careful in a school zone.

Wow glad to know you and your daughter made it out okay. The slow motion effect is actually caused by the surge of adrenaline rushing through your body. Imagine if we could harness that stuff whenever we needed to? We'd be superhuman. What is this greenman and the lollipop lady you speak of? I've never heard of them here in the states.

damn i know that one.drivers are idiots that think the road only belongs to motorists!

i ride my bicycle on a daily basis(i dont drive)and i almost get hit on a regular basis! i hate it.
ya gotta keep your eyes peeled, and your reactions sharp!
i ride on the sidewalk because i don't trust riding on the road.
man,if i almost get hit on the sidewalk,i'd probably be dead now if i ride on the road!
good save dad
and i hope your little angel is ok!

First of all. let me say that I'm glad no one was injured.

I couldn't help but wonder if the person driving the red car was also talking on the phone. I can't believe that someone actually watching the road would have made such a serious error.

It's weird, isn't it, how that works?

I've had it happen far too times for my liking (the time slow down reaction). My guess is that it's the adrenaline boost overclocking your CPU (to use a computer analogy), so you think faster, making everything seem slower.

I've had the same thing happen in the few fights I've been in, and it really gave me a pretty good edge, as I simply wouldn't be there when the hit came.

hi all

thx for your posts
that time slowing down feeling
sort of makes it feel like a wake up call
sort of snaps you out of the zombie repetitive mode

if theres something out there watching us..then thank goodness
cheers all
lets hope tomorow is lucky to

hya
thats also what is weird
it was right outside the school gates
the head mistress was there
and i think that we are in our comfort zone at that time
all the kids talking and laughing not a care in the world
and at an instant
it can all be taken away
actually in the last couple of years parents have protested for speed humps
i in the past never agreed with them (being a driver back then)
but now, speed humps should be outside schools
