Yeah I've already opened it in Notepad++ just to see what it looked like. I also tried doing a search but it's really laggy, even with my Phenom II X4 processor. So it seems that a more fine tuned application is in order. Something that will present me with all the titles that match any words in my search, and will allow me to simply click on any of the results and open it straight up with my torrent software. I'll share a link to the app when I get it done.

Tribler makes all this moot anyhow, and I'm sure we'll have several Tribler-like apps in the near future. No more seeding files on a server, no more centralized torrent-searching. All can be done strictly via P2P.

How it works

When users search for content on Tribler, results come directly from other peers instead of a central server.
By clicking on the desired search result, the meta-data is downloaded from another peer.

“No matter what crazy laws may pass in the future, people will always be able to share,” says TorrentFreak.

Tribler file-sharing software cannot be shut down, says developer

Awesome! It was only a few weeks ago I suggested something exactly like that:

I think what we need is a P2P torrent indexing network... so the torrent files are actually stored on a seperate P2P network and can't be lost with a downed server..

This is what you get when you mess with pirates!

Could all the seeders not just remove all their torrents from their manager the day before, and then re-connect them for seeding the day after?

I'd venture to guess that 50% of seeders don't know that they are seeding. There are alot of folks out there that don't explore how torrent clients work, I know alot of people that don't know that they can access their downloads from 'my computer' they think they have to go through their torrent app to get to their downloads.

hmm. Magnet links don't work in Firefox, apparently.

Sigh. The terrorists have truly won.

Do magnets work with Chrome or do they not stick?

I cannot even get link to the file. Says server not available. We just had a major outage here and its starting to look like a filter in place. Oh well. Would have liked to seen that. If there is another place to d/l it, can it be linked here? or maybe give me a post?

Aren't they supposed to work from torrent client? Not from browsers.

Oh wow, I didn't see that bitsnoop dump at the bottom of the article. That's even better!

Now all I need to do is build a simple application that lets me search through these files for what I want. Completely offline torrent searching!

Exp. off application or info thank

no need to freak folks all torrents with less than 10 users will be converted to .magnet links

this is TPB merely being very proactive they are not giving up without a fight

and portable!!!

The Pirate Bay team told TorrentFreak that the transition to a magnet site is “a step forward in technology,” and one that will make the site more resistant to being shut down.

Without torrents it takes less bandwidth to host a Pirate Bay proxy site which are used to circumvent ISP blockades in countries like Italy, Ireland, The Netherlands and Belgium. In addition, the Pirate Bay will become much more portable and thus easier to move around.

How easy it is to carry a copy of a torrent-less Pirate Bay became apparent last week, when a user reduced the entire site to 90 megabytes – small enough to fit on a tiny thumb drive. The Pirate Bay team likes the idea of a “portable” backup of the site and told TorrentFreak that they are considering releasing an official version in the future.

It’s quite remarkable to see how The Pirate Bay has transformed in recent years. The site is no longer hosting a tracker, and soon .torrent files will be entirely replaced by magnet links. Despite these changes the iconic file-sharing site is picking up new users every week.

are you two chromosomes short of down syndrome or what?

it obviously said that any torrent with MORE THAN 10 users will be deleted, not converted to magnet links. the magnet links are there anyway. torrents with less than 10 users won't be affected at all.

I thought after Megaupload Icefilms.info would not be running, but i was wrong when people were uploading shows and movies onto 2shared and RapidShare.

Pirate Bay wont shut down over this, plus i thought they hosted their servers in an undisclosed place in a cave or something???

Still want torrents? There's massive amount of them in the ocean...
1: Torrentz
2: AIO Search

Afraid of Torrents?
Use Usenet
Do not want to pay?

Use laptop, flash usb drive and linux live cd, connect to a wireless network [change MAC address first, bonus points for anon vpn or proxy] and search away at Pirate Access

Want to download without limits and still pay for a small amount of money.
Leechpack

What else? There's always the Deep Web [Tor Boundle] or Freenet project.
Filter out CP porn and you're good to go.

Your headline was a little scary seeing as how btjunkie tossed in the towel. I am glad to see TPB is going the other way. I get some of the best copyright free documentaries from the 70s and 80s through torrents. I would not know where else to find them or what to do with the original VHS they were put out on.

DEFGHDETSRTGA song by artist so so and so...

GHDCHHHGFGFFG software for compressing a file...and so and on.
