US warned over Syria stance

The US said it might impose economic, diplomatic and other unspecified sanctions against Damascus if President Bashar al-Assad failed to take what it called the right decisions.

The Secretary General of the Arab League, Amr Musa, said he was astounded by the threats and an Egyptian spokesman warned against what he called the targeting of Arab countries one by one.

GBW's war against Iraq was controversial enough, even with the world knowing that Hussein was a tyrant. I'm sure many Arab nations feel very threatened knowing that U.S. forces are already in place for possible future strikes. GWB's strong words would naturally inflame the Arabs and cause them to unite, because they probably see themselves as one big target of the U.S.

Jack Straw said that the UK has no intentions of going after Syria next, but that likely won't deter GWB from going it alone.

It appears that this conflict is polarising nations and sides are being drawn now.
