IL water system pump failure not cyber attack

This is one recent event that was believed to be a deliberate attack by Russian cyber infiltration.IMO it also proves that reports being issued by the media aren't always as they appear, and in most cases evidence to support the claim are minute and lacking key support for validation..

New reports on Nov. 28 backed initial DHS skepticism that the failure of a pump at an Illinois water utility was a foreign cyber attack on the system’s supervisory control and acquisition system.

The Washington Post reported on Nov. 28 that the failure of a water pump was the result of an error by one of the utility’s contractors who was travelling in Russia at the time and accessing the SCADA system remotely. The report backs earlier conclusions by DHS cyber security teams that the failure of the pump at Curran-Gardner Public Water District in Springfield, IL, wasn’t the work of Russian cyber criminals or agents.

Wow, so it may have come from Russia, but it was an employee error?

as for the op . Thats great news its just a pump and nothing more lol. Heard alot of people tooting that hacker horn. Glad this one is put to bed . Hopefully thats the correct version haha

Why do I get the feeling that this little tidbit won't get anywhere the attention that the story got when it *was* believed to be Russian hackers? In most people's minds, it still IS Russian hackers....
